Summer is almost here! The sun is shining and the jumpers are packed away for another season. There's nothing better than enjoying a moment to yourself with a brilliant Summer read, whether that's on the beach or in your garden, lounging on a balcony, a sofa or a hammock.
We have fantastic books, both fact and fiction, that we think will make the perfect Summer reading recommendation. It wouldn't be Summer without fun and frivolity and there's plenty of that here! With feel-good fiction titles, relationship stories that will set your heart soaring and humorous fiction that will have you laughing out loud.
For those who seek it, our Summer reads also include some brilliant books that are more serious in nature for you to enjoy. From that page-turning mystery that will keep you gripped to your seat; the thriller that will send a shiver down your spine regardless of the temperature outside; or the literary fiction that could leave you with a lump in your throat.
Our Summer reading recommendations are full of books for every reader. It’s the perfect opportunity for casual readers to pick up that book they’ve heard so much about. It’s the perfect time to embrace the heady joy of the season by picking up a particularly sunny read. Recharge in the longer days and discover those books that may have passed you by.
New books worth highlighting include Emma Cline's super addictive The Guest which is a dream of a summer read. Achieving a sweet spot between offering an escape into its sun-drenched Long Island setting (think lavish parties in luxury beach houses), and laying bare dubious human behaviours (among them manipulation and dodgy sugar daddies), it’s edgily compelling. And The Girls of Summer by Katie Bishop is a super-charged page-turner which sees a woman confront long-buried trauma and truths about her momentous summer on a Greek island as a seventeen year old.
Jenny Colgan has a new book out, and it's another absolute Star. She does it again and again with her fabulously readable books that we can't get enough of here at LoveReading. The Summer Skies is an absolutely gorgeous feel-good novel and relationship story, set in the skies and beautiful islands off the Scottish Highlands. Our Liz Robinson called it "a complete delight, allowing the reader to escape into a hug-filled slice of wonderful."
The Summer Party by debut author Rebecca Heath is another cracker, perfect for the beach. Sparkling with glamour and tainted by murder and desire – this twisted mystery centred on a secretive family and their clifftop mansion must be one of the summer’s hottest reads.
And one final summery recommendation comes in the form of Summer at the Cornish Farmhouse by Linn B. Halton. Light and breezy and jam-packed with charm, this gentle romance about having the strength to let go and follow your heart will have all of us longing for a Cornish retreat this summer.
So, grab your refreshing, temperature-regulating beverage of choice and prepare to enjoy these Summer reading recommendations.
