Well now, this was rather lovely! The south of France is brought to warm colourful life as you visit a vineyard and witness a newly formed family traversing the difficulties of meeting for the first time and forming relationships. I so enjoy reading Carol Drinkwater’s novels, they show her understanding of people, and her characters always feel authentic and enable me to form a connection with them. This particular family, in particular Celia, welcomed me in and I loved getting to know them. The relationships that formed felt oh-so real and I winced, sighed, and hoped, oh how I hoped. There is a wonderful sense of place within the vineyard, my own senses felt energised and I could visualise the surrounding countryside. An air of mystery runs through the novel, and certainly kept my thoughts abuzz as I read. The ending was just right, and a real feeling of satisfaction washed over me as I finished, which has led me to choose this novel as a Liz Pick of the Month. Sunshiny bright and welcoming, One Summer in Provence is an enjoyable and rewarding read.
