"A truly warming and satisfying read set in the south of France and full of the joys and woes of love and family."
Well now, this was rather lovely! The south of France is brought to warm colourful life as you visit a vineyard and witness a newly formed family traversing the difficulties of meeting for the first time and forming relationships. I so enjoy reading Carol Drinkwater’s novels, they show her understanding of people, and her characters always feel authentic and enable me to form a connection with them. This particular family, in particular Celia, welcomed me in and I loved getting to know them. The relationships that formed felt oh-so real and I winced, sighed, and hoped, oh how I hoped. There is a wonderful sense of place within the vineyard, my own senses felt energised and I could visualise the surrounding countryside. An air of mystery runs through the novel, and certainly kept my thoughts abuzz as I read. The ending was just right, and a real feeling of satisfaction washed over me as I finished, which has led me to choose this novel as a Liz Pick of the Month. Sunshiny bright and welcoming, One Summer in Provence is an enjoyable and rewarding read.
