Blessed Are the Peacemakers Audio Lectures: A Biblical Theology of Human Violence
The Zondervan Biblical and Theological Lectures series provides a unique audio learning experience. Unlike a traditional audiobook's direct narration of a book's text, Blessed Are the Peacemakers Audio Lectures include high quality live-recordings of college-level lectures that cover the important points from each subject as well as relevant material from other sources. This audio series dives deeply into the topic of human violence. Old Testament scholar Helen Paynter sets out the contours by addressing the various definitions of violence and the theories of its origins, prevalence, and purpose. What is violence? Is violence a human or social construct, or can we describe natural phenomena as violent? How does the concept of violence relate to the concept of evil? How do we resist violence? Starting with the creation narratives in Genesis, ancient Near Eastern myths, and the conquest of Canaan, Blessed Are the Peacemakers Audio Lectures investigates the origins of human violence and its consequences. Through the voices of the prophets and in the teaching of Jesus, the Bible reveals that the seeds of violence exist within every human heart. Even though we see evidence of resistance movements in the Bible, it is only on the cross that an absorption of violence by God takes place through self-sacrifice. Lessons also consider how the first Christians responded to the structural violence of slavery and patriarchy and how they began to apply Jesus's redemptive, non-vengeful theology to their own day. In addition to providing a comprehensive biblical theology of violence, Paynter probes behind the headlines and politicized rhetoric to provide a careful analysis of violence in our world. She concludes by setting forth a bold framework and practical suggestions for an effective and faithful Christian response to the scriptural teaching.

The Garden Within: Audio Bible Studies: Where the War with Your Emotions Ends and Your Most Powerful
"How does that make you feel?' It's a therapy joke punchline, but do therapists really ask every client that question? Yes. The not-so-funny part is how few people can answer it. For many of us, thinking is simply our default mode as we try to build a safe space for ourselves within the confines of our mind. After all, feelings can't be trusted, right? Feelings are unreliable reactions, right? It's dangerous to be emotional, right? The mind has been enthroned as our source of control. The subjugation of feeling is celebrated while tears are equated with weakness, especially in men. The demand to separate ourselves from emotion has left most of us with an extremely limited emotional vocabulary as well as an inability to properly identify and process what we are feeling. We are getting this whole thing wrong. In The Garden Within, Dr. Anita Phillips informs and encourages us to care for our hearts so we can understand our emotions and live free and empowered. The heart has always been our rightful guide; it's time we start listening to it. In this six-week study, you will: - Define man's original design as from God's heart. - Learn to elevate your heart to a position of authority. - Recognize the lies you believe surrounding emotions and the heart. - Identify personal trauma and learn ways to process through it. - Realize the daily power of faith, hope, and love. Coordinating study guide available separately. The Audio Bible Studies series provides a unique audio learning experience. Unlike a traditional audiobook's direct narration of a book's text, this audio Bible study includes high-quality, live audio sessions from the author that cover important Bible-based topics. The Finding Peace through Humility: Audio Bible Studies: A Bible Study in the Book of Judges
"In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit" (Judges 17:6). The people of Israel in the time of the judges were stuck in a draining cycle of their own making. The cycle went like this. First, the people would turn away from God and do evil. Second, the Lord would see their evil acts and respond in justice by executing his judgment. Third, the people would realize their error and, usually in remorse, cry out to the Lord for deliverance. Fourth, God would hear their cries and raise up various "judges" to deliver them from their plight. But then, with the crisis removed, the people would once again become complacent and turn away from God-and they would be stuck in the cycle all over again. Why were the people unable to break free? The author of Judges gives us a clue when he states, "In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit" (Judges 17:6; see also 18:1; 19:1; 21:25). In truth, the people had a King-the Lord-but were quick to reject him and his authority over their lives. Each time they looked to themselves or other foreign gods as their "king," they fell back into the cycle. In this six-session audio Bible study, pastor and teacher Joel Muddamalle reveals that the solution to the Israelites' problem, which is the same problem we have today, is to return to practicing humility. This often-neglected spiritual discipline is what allows us to recognize God is in control and we are not. It gives us the perspective to trust in him when we go through hardships and heartaches. It is the secret that enables us to face our fears and see the unlikely and unexpected places in which God is working in our lives. Humility is what we need to retrieve in order to live out the good life that God desires for his people-and as Joel reveals in this study, the story of Judges can serve as our guide. The Audio Bible Studies series provides a unique audio learning experience. Unlike a traditional audiobook's direct narration of a book's text, this audio Bible study includes high-quality, live audio sessions from the author that cover important Bible-based topics. Every Day a Miracle: Trusting the God Who Heals Us Inside and Out
We may know Jesus as Lord and Savior, but do we know him as Healer? This book is for anyone asking for a miracle-whether physical, mental, relational, or spiritual-and how to worship the Great Healer no matter if His answer is answer is yes, no, or wait. If we understand anything about our culture, it's that we desperately need healing. Many people are quick to believe in an outrageous conspiracy before they will believe in Jesus and the miracle worker He is. Throughout Scripture, we see that He makes the blind see, opens deaf ears, restores life from death, and so much more . . . but what about you? Do you believe that Jesus has the power to restore you to health and heal your wounds? Throughout this book, Matthew Stephen Brown leads readers on a spiritual journey designed to discover who Jesus is as Healer and explore many questions including: - Why do we believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior, but not as Healer? - Why would a good God allow us to experience pain in the first place, and maybe many times? - When we don't experience healing, does that mean Jesus has failed or let us down? - Jesus cares about our physical needs, but what healing in our lives is He most concerned about? Combining personal stories, biblical truth and wisdom, and humor that puts people at ease and draws them in, Pastor Matt Brown leads readers to worship a God who is not random, not careless, and who is never without cause, especially when it comes to performing miracles. Everyone can get behind a God who says yes. But what about when God says no? Or wait? No matter what God's plan is for your life, we can learn to trust and worship the Great Healer.

Whatever Happens: How to Stand Firm in Your Faith When the World Is Falling Apart
Do you struggle keeping your faith in a world that's losing its mind? These 31 short chapters take a deep dive into the book of Philippians, which Robert Morgan says is the Bible's handbook for tackling each day with an undaunted attitude. Life is unpredictable, and the world is unstable. People have never been so confounded, sensing our culture, economy, and geopolitical systems are spiraling downward. Even in our personal lives, none of us knows what will happen next-which is why God gave us the book of Philippians. This short letter-just over 100 verses-can help us learn to live overflowing lives in an overwhelming world. Philippians is one of the most practical books of the Bible, which Robert Morgan says is as fresh as ever. Its theme can be summed up in these verses: 'Whatever happens, conduct yourself in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then . . . I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you' (1:27-28). Among the many lessons in Whatever Happens, readers will learn how to: - Use prayer to energize their life - Make today about others - Stay as cheerful as possible in all circumstances - Let others lean on their strength - Start everything with praise and end everything with prayer As the apostle Paul wrote his letter to the Philippians from a prison cell, he was facing dire circumstances and an unsettled future. Would he be released or executed? But he knew one thing-that whatever happened, he was going to stand firm in his faith and live a life worthy of the gospel. And no matter what we are going through today, we can do the same.
