Brothers in the Beloved Community
The never-before-told story of the friendship between Martin Luther King Jr. and Thich Nhat Hanh—icons who changed each other and the world The day after Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in 1968, Thich Nhat Hanh wrote a heartbroken letter to their mutual friend Raphael Gould. He said: 'I did not sleep last night. . . . They killed Martin Luther King. They killed us. I am afraid the root of violence is so deep in the heart and mind and manner of this society. They killed him. They killed my hope. I do not know what to say. . . . He made so great an impression in me. This morning I have the impression that I cannot bear the loss.' Only a few years earlier, Thich Nhat Hanh wrote an open letter to Martin Luther King Jr. as part of his effort to raise awareness and bring peace in Vietnam. There was an unexpected outcome of Nhat Hanh's letter to King: The two men met in 1966 and 1967 and became not only allies in the peace movement, but friends. This friendship between two prophetic figures from different religions and cultures, from countries at war with one another, reached a great depth in a short period of time. Dr. King nominated Thich Nhat Hanh for the Nobel Peace Prize in 1967. He wrote: 'Thich Nhat Hanh is a holy man, for he is humble and devout. He is a scholar of immense intellectual capacity. His ideas for peace, if applied, would build a monument to ecumenism, to world brotherhood, to humanity.' The two men bonded over a vision of the Beloved Community: a vision described recently by Congressman John Lewis as 'a nation and world society at peace with itself.' It was a concept each knew of because of their membership within the Fellowship of Reconciliation, an international peace organization, and that Martin Luther King Jr. had been popularizing through his work for some time. Thich Nhat Hanh, Andrus shows, took the lineage of the Beloved Community from King and carried it on after his death.

Faith Under Fire: Stories of Hope and Courage from World War II
As World War II raged, millions of men and women confronted injury, destruction, separation from home and loved ones, chaos, and death. These challenges and traumas and many others forced an entire generation of everyday heroes to take stock of their lives. And in the process, many turned to God in ways they never had before. In Faith Under Fire, you'll experience scenes of astonishing bravery, moments of heart-breaking loss, and a pervasive sense of love for God, neighbor, and country that was strong enough to transcend denominational and national differences, inspiring selfless acts of courage and compassion under the worst of circumstances. Award-winning author Steve Rabey presents more than twenty firsthand accounts of faith under pressure, many of them illustrated with war-time photos, letters, and journal entries. Hearts of Fire 2: Twelve inspiring stories of costly faith from today's persecuted Christians
Shortly after Tamara and her husband moved to the city of Isfara, Tajikistan, a delegation of Muslim women paid her a visit. After welcoming the women into her home, Tamara realized their visit was not a friendly one. The women knew she and her husband were sharing the gospel and declared the two needed to leave the city. Christians-especially those who would share their faith with Muslims-were not welcome. While Tamara heard their message, she did not fully understand the danger she and her husband were in. Tamara is one of twelve courageous women you will meet in this follow-up to Hearts of Fire. From the Colombian evangelist on the run for witnessing to guerrilla fighters, to the American woman who publicly forgave the Islamic extremists who gunned down her husband on the streets of Benghazi, Libya, these women's lives were turned upside down when they obeyed the words of Christ. However, each embraced the hope found only in the unshakeable eternal kingdom of Jesus Christ our Lord. In addition to these twelve stories, you will also read the testimonies of eleven women who share how God strengthened them and provided for them when their earthly kingdom was shaken as they served Him. For more than 50 years, The Voice of the Martyrs has shared the stories of courageous Christians in the world's most difficult and dangerous places to follow Christ. This new volume brings you true stories of courageous women, heroes of the faith, who represent countless others facing similar trials today. Christian Encounters, a series of biographies from Thomas Nelson Publishers, highlights important lives from all ages and areas of the Church. Some are familiar faces. Others are unexpected guests. But all, through their relationships, struggles, prayers, and desires, uniquely illuminate our shared experience When she arrived in the New World at eighteen, Anne Bradstreet was a reluctant passenger: her old, comfortable lifestyle in England was quickly dashed against the rocks of the Massachusetts Bay. While the wilderness of America and the drama of establishing the Massachusetts Bay Colony at times overwhelmed her, she always took refuge in the belief that it was God's plan. Anne respected the Puritan teachings and followed them her entire life, always searching for God's hand in everything around her. But she also was inspired by a strong female leader of the day, Queen Elizabeth, and this influence taught Anne to push herself beyond the day's limitations. She managed her home, educated her children, encouraged her husband, and sought her Lord-all with a poet's heart.

I originally hand wrote this book in the mid to late 90's; but had never published it. It is a prequel to my book 'I AM HERE: My Faith Journey as a Survivor' published May 2022. The prequel spans my courtship, 9 year marriage that was emotionally abusive and my divorce after having two children. It was after the divorce that I survived a woman's worst nightmare. I was raped at gunpoint. My faith was strengthened as I experienced the criminal justice system first hand. I believe this book can help others see that God's plan is always the best for us and that His Grace is sufficient in all things. My hope for you is that you can experience what the New Living Translation Bible says in Psalm 34:8 'Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!' I am a woman of faith that listens carefully to the voice in my heart. I have written and published two books now that the Lord has inspired in me. I have relied on my faith throughout my life and it has guided me through many trials; divorce, miscarriages, rape, the criminal justice system, and surviving COVID even though I was not expected to live. I have been happily retired living the quiet country life with my husband for the past 5 years after teaching for 40 years. I am keeping up with my 9 grandchildren ranging in age from 4 months to 16 years old. I enjoy 2 stepping with my husband and we will be taking up Square Dancing in 2023. I enjoy hosting family gatherings at my home, reading books for book club, working out at the gym, and enjoying life to the fullest.

Growing up in the Tennessee hills, Alvin York was equally renowned as a marksman and as a hard-drinking brawler. A dramatic New Year's conversion convinced him that killing was against God's will, and yet this shy, big-boned mountaineer singlehandedly dispatched two dozen Germans and captured 132 in the closing days of World War I. He earned the Medal of Honor and a ticker tape parade but refused to cash in on his fame, insisting "Uncle Sam's uniform ain't for sale." This succinct and gripping new account of Sgt. York's remarkable life includes details from exclusive interviews with the sergeant's three surviving children and information drawn from battlefield eyewitness reports and original film studio archives: fresh reminders of the legacy of one of America's great Christian patriots. We learn about life through the lives of others. Their experiences, their trials, their adventures become our schools, our chapels, our playgrounds. Christian Encounters, a series of biographies from Thomas Nelson Publishers, highlights important lives from all ages and areas of the Church through prose as accessible and concise as it is personal and engaging. Some are familiar faces. Others are unexpected guests. Whether the person is D.L. Moody, Sergeant York, Saint Nicholas, John Bunyan, or William F. Buckley, we are now living in the world that they created and understand both it and ourselves better in the light of their lives. Their relationships, struggles, prayers, and desires uniquely illuminate our shared experience.

Two-and-a-half centuries after his death, the complex life of composer Johann Sebastian Bach continues to fascinate. Bach's colorful life was anchored in his belief that 'music has been ordered by God's Spirit'?so much so that he began each composition by scrawling Jesu, juva (Jesus, help me) at the top of a blank page and concluded each with S.D.G. (short for Soli Deo Gloria, to God alone be the glory). Through the eyes of noted music and culture writer Rick Marschall, the intensely personal yet boldly public faith that earned Bach the nickname 'The Fifth Evangelist' takes on fresh meaning. From a survey of Bach's family and its deep Christian roots to a behind-the-scenes look at how he crafted his masterpieces, this book paints a picture of an astonishing figure and his relationship with his God. Marschall brings Bach's enduring music and influence to the postmodern world and to all who would draw inspiration from his relentless pursuit of divinely ordained creativity.
