Build: An Unorthodox Guide to Making Things Worth Making
Brought to you by Penguin. Tony Fadell led the teams that created the iPod, iPhone and Nest Learning Thermostat and learned enough in 30+ years in Silicon Valley about leadership, design, startups, Apple, Google, decision-making, mentorship, devastating failure and unbelievable success to fill an encyclopedia. So that's what this book is. An advice encyclopedia. A mentor in a box. Written for anyone who wants to grow at work - from young grads navigating their first jobs to CEOs deciding whether to sell their companies - Build is full of personal stories, practical advice and fascinating insights into some of the most impactful products and people of the 20th century. Each quick 5-20 page entry builds on the previous one, charting Tony's personal journey from a product designer to a leader, from a startup founder to an executive to a mentor. Tony uses examples that are instantly captivating, like the process of building the very first iPod and iPhone. Every chapter is designed to help readers with a problem they're facing right now - how to get funding for their startup, whether to quit their job or not, or just how to deal with the jerk in the next cubicle. Tony forged his path to success alongside mentors like Steve Jobs and Bill Campbell, icons of Silicon Valley who succeeded time and time again. But Tony doesn't follow the Silicon Valley credo that you have to reinvent everything from scratch to make something great. His advice is unorthodox because it's old school. Because Tony's learned that human nature doesn't change. You don't have to reinvent how you lead and manage - just what you make. And Tony's ready to help everyone make things worth making. © Tony Fadell 2022 (P) Penguin Audio 2022

Fossil Future: Why Global Human Flourishing Requires More Oil, Coal, and Natural Gas--Not Less
The New York Times bestselling author of The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels draws on the latest data and new insights to challenge everything you thought you knew about the future of energy For over a decade, philosopher and energy expert Alex Epstein has predicted that any negative impacts of fossil fuel use on our climate will be outweighed by the unique benefits of fossil fuels to human flourishing--including their unrivaled ability to provide low-cost, reliable energy to billions of people around the world, especially the world's poorest people. And contrary to what we hear from media "experts" about today's "renewable revolution" and "climate emergency," reality has proven Epstein right: • Fact: Fossil fuels are still the dominant source of energy around the world, and growing fast-while much-hyped renewables are causing skyrocketing electricity prices and increased blackouts. • Fact: Fossil-fueled development has brought global poverty to an all-time low. • Fact: While fossil fuels have contributed to the 1 degree of warming in the last 170 years, climate-related deaths are at all-time lows thanks to fossil-fueled development. What does the future hold? In Fossil Future, Epstein, applying his distinctive "human flourishing framework" to the latest evidence, comes to the shocking conclusion that the benefits of fossil fuels will continue to far outweigh their side effects-including climate impacts-for generations to come. The path to global human flourishing, Epstein argues, is a combination of using more fossil fuels, getting better at "climate mastery," and establishing "energy freedom" policies that allow nuclear and other truly promising alternatives to reach their full long-term potential. Today's pervasive claims of imminent climate catastrophe and imminent renewable energy dominance, Epstein shows, are based on what he calls the "anti-impact framework"-a set of faulty methods, false assumptions, and anti-human values that have caused the media's designated experts to make wildly wrong predictions about fossil fuels, climate, and renewables for the last fifty years. Deeply researched and wide-ranging, this book will cause you to rethink everything you thought you knew about the future of our energy use, our environment, and our climate.

Made in the USA: The Rise and Retreat of American Manufacturing
In Made in the USA, Vaclav Smil powerfully rebuts the notion that manufacturing is a relic of predigital history and that the loss of American manufacturing is a desirable evolutionary step toward a pure service economy. Smil argues that no advanced economy can prosper without a strong, innovative manufacturing sector and the jobs it creates. Smil explains how manufacturing became a fundamental force behind America's economic, strategic, and social dominance. He describes American manufacturing's rapid rise at the end of the nineteenth century, its consolidation and modernization between the two world wars, its role as an enabler of mass consumption after 1945, and its recent decline. Some economists argue that shipping low-value jobs overseas matters little because the high-value work remains in the United States. But, asks Smil, do we want a society that consists of a small population of workers doing high-value-added work and masses of unemployed? Smil assesses various suggestions for solving America's manufacturing crisis, including lowering corporate tax rates, promoting research and development, and improving public education. Will America act to preserve and reinvigorate its manufacturing? It is crucial to our social and economic well-being; but, Smil warns, the odds are no better than even.

We are at an exciting threshold for the development and deployment of private space stations and more advanced designs from various countries. This trend shows how quickly space technologies are developing. The advancements in cheaper rockets to carry more payloads into Earth’s orbit in a less costly manner is another trend which is supporting the development of these new space stations and space transportation options. The last few years a lot of companies and governments are making plans to develop and deploy a variety of space stations and moon bases. This seems like to good time to update everyone with what are these latest plans, space technologies, transportation options and more. I’ve tried to include all I could find on new space technologies and plans relevant to working and living in space. I wrote a book on Space in 2017 titled “Designing and Building Space Colonies” along with another ten space related books later on. So this is one of my favorite genres.

Types of UFOs Observed in History
My goal in this book is to show the different types of UFOs reported throughout history and today. I’m not trying to prove whether these ships are real or not. I just thought that given the many thousands of sightings of UFOs there should be some commonalities between the sightings. Some of the questions I want to answer include: Are there any trends in these sightings? Is there an evolution in the design of these vehicles over time? Are there some common designs over time? Also, some of the UFOs sighted are likely fakes or secret projects built by the US government. I tried to show that information too. Just due to the number of stars in our galaxy I’m convinced that Aliens exist and have probably visited our planet thousands or even millions of year in the past-in addition to visiting in the present. This collection of historical photos, drawings, and descriptions should provide you with a narrative as to how these sightings have changed over time.

Rewired: Protecting Your Brain in the Digital Age
We live in a world that is always on, where everyone is always connected. But we feel increasingly disconnected. Why? The answer lies in our brains. Carl D. Marci, MD, a leading expert on social and consumer neuroscience, reviews the mounting evidence that overuse of smart phones and social media is rewiring our brains, resulting in a losing deal: we are neglecting the relationships that sustain us and keep us healthy in favor of weaker and more ephemeral ties. The ability to connect and form strong social bonds is fundamental to human experience and emerged through unique structures in our brains. But ever-more-powerful technologies and ubiquitous access to media have hijacked our need to connect intimately and emotionally with others. The habits that accompany our digital lifestyles are putting tremendous pressure on critical components of the brain associated with attention, emotion, and memory, changing how we process information and altering how we communicate and relate, even at a physiological level. As a psychiatrist working at the forefront of research on the impact of digital technology, Marci has seen this transformation up close and developed a range of responses. Rewired provides scientifically supported solutions for everyone who wants to restore their tech-life balance.
