The Cold War includes such speeches as JFK's address to the nation on the arms buildup in Cuba and commending West Berliners on their dedication to democracy, Presidents Nixon and Ford on treaty talks in Helsinki, and Ronald Reagan confronting Mikhail Gorbachev at the Berlin Wall. The Successful Author Mindset: A Handbook for Surviving the Writer's Journey
Being a writer is not just about typing. It's also about surviving the roller-coaster of the creative journey. Self-doubt, fear of failure, the need for validation, perfectionism, writer's block, comparisonitis, overwhelm, and much more. When you're going through these things, it can feel like you're alone. But actually, they are part of the creative process, and every author goes through them too. This book collects the mindset issues that writers experience, that I have been through myself over the last nine years, and that perhaps you will experience at different times on the creative journey. Each small chapter tackles a possible issue and then offers an antidote, so that you can dip in and out over time. It includes excerpts from my own personal journals as well as quotes from well-known writers. I hope it helps you on the road to becoming a successful author.

The Matristic Culture of Pre-historic Europe
There was a time in human history when a matristic culture dominated the social structure. When ask to describe the difference between matriarchal and matristic cultures, Mackey responded, “Patriarchy is men in charge, matriarchy would be women in charge . . . Matristic is a more collaborative, partnership, a communal way of governing. It’s a way in which the Earth is seen as a great mother that brings forth life and is worshipped for that, but at the same time it’s not a society in which women exercise over men the same kind of power that you would have in a patriarchal society that men would exercise over women. It’s a gentler term. It’s a more egalitarian term.” In her Prequel to the Earth series of books, she imagines what it would be like for a peace-loving culture to resist an invading hoard. She shares the research on which she bases her stories. (hosted by Justine Willis Toms)

The Creative Path is a Life Path
Creativity is a journey with lots of ups and downs, twists and turns. To be creative, one cannot watch from the sidelines. Cathy Wild suggests that there is no set formula for the creative process; there are no steps 1, 2, 3, or A, B, C that guarantee a successful outcome. Each of us is unique, and Wild believes that creativity is our natural state, our birthright. Here she talks about the need to deeply understand ourselves as more than a mental activity. She describes her own process: “Doodling. I do a lot of doodling. [I do] anything that is process oriented that uses the body, that circumvents the thinking mind. . . While there is a period of discomfort when moving much deeper into the body memory, ultimately there’s an incredible sense of freedom because we’re making space in the body and in the mind for something new, because that memory or that experience that was unprocessed was taking up space and there is not an infinite amount of room. As we get older all these [unprocessed] experiences are stacked up in the body and they accumulate like dark smoke that inhabits the body, and there’s just less and less light, less and less room. And eventually all this unintended energy begins to form a block and gets in the way of healthy expression.” She goes on to talk about what to do when resistance comes up, as well as ways to honor our limits. She gives an example of how she turned “lemons into lemonade” when her publisher backed out of the commitment to publish her book. (hosted by Justine Willis Toms)
