LoveReading Says

This is a novel that sits on the edge of what is known, at the space between places, and sends out a siren call to the imagination. Do you believe in fairy tales? If the deep, dark, haunting beauty of traditional folklore and fairy tales call to you, then you should feel right at home. A scholar and an heiress fall in love, they marry after she has extracted his promise not to look into her past. When they return to her childhood home he discovers a mystery and is caught between his promise and finding the truth. I’ve fallen deeply in love with this story. Roshani Chokshi writes with an exquisite pen, creating a fine balance between the most considered yet expressive writing. She is critically acclaimed for her young adult fiction, and this is her first novel for adults. I felt as though I was being drawn towards a place hovering right on the edge of my awareness. When I reached it I fell into free-fall and lost myself to the words. There is a rich decadence to be found, beauty sits waiting, nightmares too. There is a wickedly sharp and modern Gothic feel to this novel and a heart full of love, lies, and betrayal beats within the pages. With a mystery at its fairy tale centre, The Last Tale of the Flower Bride is a stunningly visual read. Chosen as a Star Book and Liz Pick of the Month, I have struggled to express how much this novel means to me, I can only recommend it with my heart and soul.
