The Last Encore

LoveReading Says

Set on a private island in Australia, The Last Encore is a bonza beach read for fans of escapist thrillers. Teeming with the intrigue of an ensemble cast of questionable characters, and told from multiple points of view, it’s an entertaining, rambunctiously readable page-turner that makes excellent use of its locked-room island context, with themes of ambition and envy laced through its fast-paced narrative.

Eighteen years have passed since Jonny, lead singer of The Cedrics, was killed in an apparently accidental explosion, and the band members have reunited to make a documentary. Jonny’s daughter has come to take up her father’s mantle, and a select group of super-fans have been invited to witness an exclusive reunion show - a tinderbox scenario that sets the stage for more explosive showdowns.

Tensions simmer from the outset: lives have taken different turns since Jonny’s death, and everyone has different accounts of what happened on the night he died. As old frictions are rekindled, a body is found, and so unfolds a narrative that ricochets with revenge, ambition, and unresolved business. As a result, The Last Encore comes recommended for readers who relish escapist thrillers with glamourous contexts, multiple suspects, and family drama.
