Half a World by Joe Abercrombie

Sarah Broadhurst's view...

The sequel to Half a King this next instalment takes us beyond the Kingdoms of the Shattered Sea on another epic journey. I believe it stands alone well enough but you always get more from a series by starting at the beginning. It is character-led fantasy set in a Viking style kingdom in danger of invasion. One ship’s crew journeys south in search of allies and encounters an exciting amount of obstacles along the way. Full of snappy one-line bits of wisdom and lots of fighting it is proper old-fashioned adventure and a joy to read. Joe Abercrombie is a known master of the genre so check out his other work as well.

If you like Joe Abercrombie you might also like to read books by Steven Erikson , Scott Lynch and Richard Morgan.

About the Author

Joe Abercrombie

Joe Abercrombie was born in Lancaster on the last day of 1974, the son of an English teacher and a sociologist. He spent much of his youth in imaginary worlds, and left school with a good idea of how to make stuff up. He moved to the big city, learned to brew tea, and ended up as a TV editor, working on documentaries, events and concerts for bands from Iron Maiden to Coldplay. But in the darkness of the night he was still making stuff up, and his first book, The Blade Itself, was published in 2006. He now lives in Bath with his wife Lou and their three children Grace, Eve and Teddy and makes stuff up full-time.
