This novel will deservedly fly, it took my heart and soul, flinging them out into the void before they floated, span, and plummeted back to earth. When a teenager is abducted, his best friend refuses to stop searching, but when he is found another devastating journey begins. Chris Whitaker’s We Begin at the End is one of my favourite novels of the last few years, All The Colours of the Dark takes on the baton and disappears with it. Spanning genres it sits within and without; crime, mystery, literary, relationship, and family drama. Chris Whitaker shares an intimate dance with pain, allowing you to feel, to physically taste the disturbance. These characters have taken up lodging in my innermost thoughts and feelings, they became real to me, mattered, and oh how I cared. While this is undoubtedly in parts an incredibly tense and intense read, it is also light as a feather as it looks into and explores the deepest aspects of love in all its different forms. This is a story that has become a part of me, a story I will never forget. It stretched my mind, leaving gaps that I filled, it tore into my heart, regularly filling and emptying it with raw grief and desperation and then hope and determination. Of course it had to be a LoveReading Star Book, and also a Liz Pick of the Month. Simply stunning, All the Colours of the Dark is a heart-piercing, mind-blowing masterpiece.
