"Creepy as heck, this fabulous thriller filled with dark secrets keeps the tension and suspense screamingly high as it explores a town declared the safest in the US."
A fantastically unsettling thriller set in a town that boasts it’s the safest in the US, however when Dan and his daughter Sadie arrive at their new home from the UK, they find a dead body in the pool. Particular favourites of mine by bestselling author C.J. Tudor include LoveReading Star Books The Drift and A Sliver of Darkness.
She has the particular gift of adding a decided dose of sinister and creepy into the mix while retaining all of hallmarks of a realistic and cracking crime thriller novel. While she very much has her own style, I was reminded of Steven King while reading this, how he can take the ordinary and twist it into something of nightmares.
The town in Serenity Falls is too good to be true which adds to the unnerving feel that lingers across the pages. The ice cream van in particular gave me the most fabulous creeps and I will forever shudder when I hear or see one. Chapters flit between Dan in the first person, Sadie in the third person, and then the residents of the town who are introduced in the heading of their chapters.
The different styles set me on high alert, made me question each person and their story. I could feel each individual character, they became known to me and as they settled into place alongside the town the tension ramped up. If you love to ride the sharpest edge of suspense then I recommend Serenity Falls, it’s a fabulously riveting read.
