The Taking of Annie Thorne is terrific in every way' Lee Child The new spine-tingling, sinister thriller from the Sunday Times bestselling author of The Chalk Man . . . _______________ Then . . . One night, Annie went missing. Disappeared from her own bed. There were searches, appeals. Everyone thought the worst. And then, miraculously, after forty-eight hours, she came back. But she couldn't, or wouldn't, say what had happened to her. Something happened to my sister. I can't explain what. I just know that when she came back, she wasn't the same. She wasn't my Annie. I didn't want to admit, even to myself, that sometimes I was scared to death of my own little sister. Now. . . The email arrived in my inbox two months ago. A DAILY TELEGRAPH BOOK OF THE YEAR 'If you like my stuff, you'll like this' STEPHEN KING 'A tense gripper with a leave-the-lights-on shock ending' Sunday Times ________________ You can feel it in the woods, in the school and in the playground; you can feel it in the houses and at the fairground. You can feel it in most places in the small town of Anderbury . . . the fear that something or someone is watching you. It began back in 1986, at the fair, on the day of the accident. That was when twelve-year-old Eddie met Mr Halloran - the Chalk Man. He gave Eddie the idea for the drawings: a way to leave secret messages for his friends and it was fun, until the chalk men led them to a body. Thirty years later, Ed believes the past is far behind him, until an envelope slips through the letterbox. It contains a stick of chalk, and a drawing of a figure. Is history going to repeat itself? Was it ever really over? Will this game only end in the same way? ________________ '[I] haven't had a sleepless night due to a book in a long time.
