Mike Dewar was born in Glossop Derbyshire in 1968 but was brought up in Walkden near Manchester. Born into a fire service family with his father, brother and two uncles all serving with Lancashire and Manchester fire service. After service with the Parachute Regiment in the British army he joined Manchester fire service in 1990 in which he served for 30 years.
