"A devastatingly lovely story about grief, love and the power of books. A story for people who love books."
Matilda publishes celebrity memoirs, loved books but lost her spark when she lost her husband Joe. When her birthday comes around she receives a call from her local bookshop. Before he died, Joe arranged for a year of books, one each month accompanied with handwritten notes. A P.S. I Love You style book subscription. Through a calendar year we see how books shape Matilda’s life, helping her find her spark and inspiring her to try new things.
This Book Made Me Think of You is all about the power of bookshops, booksellers and stories - and finding the right one for the right moment. There’s even themed recommendations throughout to continue the reading joy. Now for a brief but relevant tangent, this book has been on my to-be-read list for literally months. To the point where I knew I wanted to read it but had forgotten the premise. I just so happened to start this title during a very rough couple of weeks over the ten-year anniversary of my own lost loved one. Talk about serendipity and proof of a point in action. As I read (ok, mostly cried) my way through the story, I felt like I was an honorary member of the Paris Grief Gang. It’s devastating. It’s healing. It’s just so lovely. The rally for Book Lane put me in mind of Page’s equally gorgeous debut, The Lido (read that too if you haven’t already). It also made me wish for someone as tall, comforting and knitwear clad as Alfie in my life. It made me sad in the best way, but it’s filled with hope and romance and books and life. This Book Made Me Think of You gets all of the stars from me, I implore you to read it.

A BBC RADIO 2 BOOK CLUB PICK
Twelve stories. Twelve months. One chance to heal her heart...
When Tilly Nightingale receives a call telling her there's a birthday gift from her husband waiting for her at her local bookshop, it couldn't come as more of a shock. Partly, because she can't remember the last time she read a book for pleasure. Mainly, because Joe died five months ago…
The gift is simple - twelve carefully chosen books from Joe, one for each month, to help her turn the page on her first year without him.
And so begins a reading-inspired journey that takes Tilly around the world; from bustling sidewalks in New York and the tree-lined avenues of Paris to the tranquil Tuscan countryside and the white sands of Bali. With the help of the bookshop owner, Alfie, Tilly starts to discover who she is now, after Joe.
But can Tilly's year of books show her how to love again?
