LoveReading Expert Review of The Final Twist

An addictive, hard-hitting, wow of an action-packed thriller and LoveReading Star Book.

An all-consuming read awaits in this wonderfully crafted, fast and sharp thriller. Colter Shaw wants to take down crooked company BlackBridge, but they will let nothing get in their way. This action-packed series began with The Never Game, and here we are already at the third book in and I’ve particularly enjoyed how the plot has continued and developed through the novels. Dare I say it, The Final Twist is my favourite in the series so far, Colter is really settling in as a must-read character. Jeffery Deaver is hugely adept at setting whip-smart plotlines and characters you care about. The reader is always kept in the dark about one or two things, which lead to exciting reveals that hit the spot at just the right moment. Here, the wow of the introduction and first chapter explodes into being, and that was it, I was as hooked as a hooked thing can be and read it in one glorious sitting. I felt as though I was in the heart and heat of the action right through to the smile-inducing end. The Final Twist is an engaging and enthralling thriller that proclaims Jeffery Deaver as the master storyteller he is.

The Final Twist Reader Reviews

In addition to our Lovereading expert opinion some of our Reader Review Panel were also lucky enough to read and review this title.

A thriller full of twists and turns written by an accomplished author that grabs the readers attention, mystifies them yet brings them to an enlightening finish. A pleasure to read.

Despite being the last in the series, I had not read any of the previous stories and this is an excellent stand alone thriller.
The constant twists and turns kept the interest going even though the book was not read in one sitting. Picking up the book each time was done with a feeling of positive anticipation.
Although there were few quiet chapters to allow the reader to draw breath, this was more than compensated for by the stand out soft running theme in the background of the importance of family which softened the story. This made the book much more fulfilling to read. Colter Shaw is an excellent protagonist

It was a really good read and would recommend it.

I have always enjoyed Jeffrey Deaver in the past so was excited to read this new book.
The is about a guy who normally searches for people for rewards, in this book he is trying to track down the people that killed his father and some of his father’s friends. His estranged brother turns up to lend a hand. The pair work well together solving the clues to find the missing documents that will bring down his father’s killers.
The book has lots of twists and turns and plenty of action.
It was a really good read and would recommend it.

A clever thriller with interesting twists and turns. Very readable.

The Final Twist is an appropriate title for this book with its many twists and turns and surprises.

Colter Shaw tackles the company he knows is responsible for his father’s murder. In the process he has to evade the criminals who want to eliminate him and save another family he discovers during his investigations is due to be murdered within 52 hours. Finding out who this family is, why they have been targeted and how to save them, is very much part of the climax of the plot.

After a somewhat confusing start (which becomes clear some pages into the book), the novel settles into a comfortable and readable rhythm. It is the usual page-turner one expects of Jeffery Deaver. Although it is not a thriller which keeps you on the edge of your seat, it is still full of surprises with an interesting and unusual premise.

I enjoyed the descriptions of many areas of San Francisco and it is clear a lot of research went into composing this book. Deaver writes with confidence and ties up the loose ends satisfactorily. The subject of corporate villainy, environmental pollution and drug distribution is topical and the way Shaw goes about frustrating the antagonists, finally brings the book to a gratifying close. It kept my attention throughout and the characterisation was appealing, having me rooting for Shaw while knowing he would triumph.

A story that is full of twists that you do not see coming but they draw you in as a reader further and further.

The killers believe that they are the best and nothing will get in the way of what they want but they have never met Colter and nor will they want to again. A story that is full of twists that you do not see coming but they draw you in as a reader further and further. It is not one that you will want to put down.

A good read.

I wasn't sure about this book to start with. I usually prefer books set in Britain as it seems to me like reading a foreign language with American books. I also found it a little confusing to start with as it was like separate stories and I kept losing track of where I was. However having said all that, by the time I was halfway through I could see how skillfully it was all coming together and I couldn't put the book down until I had finished it so I have to say it was a very good read which is something you expect from Jeffery Deaver.

Like a treasure hunt on speed, this was an action-packed, adrenaline-rush of a read with so many plot twists and turns.

Colter Shaw is in the business of finding people for rewards and in this, the third and final instalment in the series, his search is personal. He is trying to unravel the clues left by his dead father to bring the nefarious and untouchable BlackBridge corporation to justice and to track down the people responsible for his fathers murder. Oh and he’s also trying to help a mother to find her missing daughter so he has his work cut out for him!

Like a treasure hunt on speed, Colter faces one action packed scenario after another as he criss-crosses the city of San Francisco following clues. He relies on the many skills taught to him by his survivalist father during his, sometimes harsh, upbringing and they are useful skills that save his skin on more than one occasion.

This was an action-packed, adrenaline-rush of a read with so many plot twists and turns. I loved the character of both Colter, seeing how he had used his unique upbringing to his advantage in later life. The ending drew in a lot of loose ends but without having read the first two books in the Colter Shaw series I may not have been able to appreciate their significance fully. Although it does stand alone I would recommend reading the series in order to get the most enjoyment and I’m certainly going to fill in the gaps by reading the first two instalments as soon as I can. After The Final Twist I don’t think they will disappoint!

Colter Shaw has 48 hours to save the day and avenge his Father's death. After dead end after red-herring, has he found the Holy Grail responsible for so many deaths?

Will Colter Shaw stick or twist?
This is the third book in the Colter Shaw series: it is not essential that the reader has read the previous two titles as the author feeds you enough information to fill in the gaps.
Colter Shaw is someone who collects rewards: he is good at it. He is also a man with a quest: to bring down the organisation who killed his Father, amongst many others. Following the clues that have been left by his parent, Colter has limited time, for caught up in this tangled web is the survival of an innocent family. A family who has 48 hours to live.
There are twists aplenty before we get to the final one, some of them wrong turns and many clever right ones. I liked Shaw, he is a great hero, just as the villains are suitably distasteful and ruthless. The story is fast paced: it fairly rockets along the streets of San Francisco, hurtling towards the climax of what is an exciting tale.
A well written, well crafted adventure.

Another crime classic from the master of twists, Deaver weaves the next piece in the Colter Shaw tapestry.

The third in Jeffrey Deaver's series featuring new justice fighter Colter Shaw, The Final Twist certainly lives up to its name. The pages leave you guessing as one chapter turns from another and you find yourself guessing motives, traitors and who will survive the next shootout. At times it can be hard to keep up with the many threads as Deaver moves through multiple narratives and lives, but ultimately everything is brought together with relative satisfaction.

It was good to get more insight into Shaw's background, his wild and unusual upbringing revealing more of the boy and man. Another pleasant surprise was the continuation of the Victoria Lesston character, and I hope to see her again in other Shaw books. All too often crime writers introduce and dispose of female characters with frustrating regularity, and I hope Lesston doesn't become a Bond-girl equivalent.

The pace is steady meaning its 400+ pages don't feel overdrawn or tedious. Take a breath and see if you can keep up.

I really have enjoyed all three Colter Shaw books. Jeffery Deaver is great at keeping you glued to the story. His plots are so well done and enjoyable. I really hope there will be more Colter Shaw books.

The Final Twist is the third instalment in the Colter Shaw series. We pick up from the last book and Colter is on the hunt for his father's killers. We find Colter in San Francisco trying to find out more about what his father knew and trying to find out more information about the corporation BlackBridge. The book has a secondary storyline as Colter takes on a job to find a missing person. What I like about Colter is he will try and help anyone find a missing person even if there is little to no money involved. In the previous two books Colter talks about his siblings Dora and Russell. Russell has been missing since their father's funeral and Colter has been searching for him unsuccessfully but maybe there's a family reunion on the cards.

I have enjoyed all three Colter Shaw books. Jeffery Deaver sure knows how to plot a book and keep you glued and wanting more. The door has been left open for more books and I really hope there is.

If you like mysteries with twists, this is a book for you. Thoroughly enjoyed it and found myself believing in the characters.

My first time reading anything by Jeffery Deaver. The plot centres around Colter Shaw, an unusual investigator, who wants to solve the mystery his Father was working on when he was killed. Along the way, there are various things to distract him, including his long lost brother, Russell.

Another book that had me gripped and I didn't want to put it down - would highly recommend.
