Lovereading view...

A simply delightful romp, stuffed to the glamorous brim with revenge, scandal, intrigue and a joyfully good story. This is the second in the ‘Swell Valley’ series, set after The Inheritance’ and while some of the same characters breeze in to say hello, there are some stimulating new additions to the village. The map and list of characters are enjoyable but not absolutely essential as Tilly Bagshawe is an expert at handling a large cast. The author skilfully manipulates stories within stories, the drama of the big scenes sitting perfectly alongside the descriptive every day detailing. There are occasions when some ‘me time’ is called for and ‘The Show’ really is an eloquent and entertaining companion to escape with for a few hours. ~ Liz Robinson

Synopsis

The Show by Tilly Bagshawe

The second book in the Swell Valley series Surrounded by rolling fields and filled with idyllic stone cottages, the chocolate box village of Fittlescombe is the jewel in England's crown. But battlelines are about to be drawn - and this time it's even more deadly than cricket ...When Wraggsbottom Farm's finances are squeezed, Laura Baxter has an idea to show the world the secret of her happy (if sometimes muddy) country life: producing a reality show about Fittlescombe village. But when the new vicar, 'Call-me-Bill' Clempson takes it upon himself to lead the anti-Valley Farm Show protest, Laura and her husband Gabe find that the village is divided. And when newcomer MP 'Fast' Eddie Wellesley draws attention for all the wrong reasons, opposition comes from some unexpected places too ...With so much at stake for her village and her marriage, will Laura be able to weather the storm, or will her big idea turn out to be her biggest mistake?
