Huge, in fact, huger than huge klaxon alert as Cecelia Ahern has written a sequel to her truly wonderful debut, P.S. I Love You. It’s been seven years since Gerry died, and after Holly talks about his letters in a podcast, a group approaches her asking for help. I adore Cecelia Ahern’s writing, it just speaks to, and connects with my entire being. Confession time, I didn’t write any notes as I read, I just read for the pure pleasure of it. Which in itself, really makes a statement doesn’t it? Holly is honest, and entirely human as she initially tries to distance herself from the group. This is an older Holly, an altered Holly, she has moved on while Gerry and the letters have remained anchored in time. The other characters are absolutely fascinating, I grew to care about the group members and fell completely in love with Ginika. After reaching the end I found myself reflecting, the writing not only entered my heart, it also still sits in my thoughts. Postscript is just as brilliant, just as emotional, just as gorgeous, as P.S., and while linking so effectively to the past, grows into a truly beautiful novel in its own unique right. Thirty very different pieces about extraordinary women, keenly observed and astute. They cover the spectrum from triumphant to pathetic, sad to humerous, surprising to surreal. There is the woman who unravels, another who grows wings, one who secretly paints her grass green, one talks to ducks, one slips through a timeless crack and another is put on a shelf. Some will irritate, others make you laugh or cry. Do not read too many together else you will lose the flavour. I would believe it to be a good bedside book, read two or three a night and take the next day pondering and digesting them before the next batch. I also believe it would make an excellent Christmas present for any woman any age.

Just so, so gorgeous! Laura lives on her own in the woodland wilds of South West Ireland, a film crew discover she has a special gift, will she be exploited or set free? I always know a book is fabulous when I forget I’m meant to be reviewing and instead find myself completely transported to another world. Cecelia Ahern writes with such a light, magical touch, yet she opens up feelings and allows you to see, to feel, to think. Each part of the story is introduced by a fascinating section taken from a book written in 1933, and links beautifully to Laura. This story is alive with the mystical and unknown, yet is a very modern tale indeed. The writing is so perfect, I actually heard sound… noise touched me, clearly, effortlessly and beautifully, making my heart ache. A delicious enchantment underpins and threads through the story, yet there is also an undertone of unease and foreboding that lingers as you turn the pages, ensuring ‘Lyrebird’ is a bewitching, gloriously delightful read. One of our YA Books of the Year 2016. Set in a society in which those deemed ‘flawed’ are branded and ostracised, Cecelia Ahern’s debut YA novel will talk directly to its readers. Every teenager wants to be perfect, to fit in and look like they know what they’re doing, so the thought of being marked as different, and more than that, as imperfect, out of step with everyone else, is terrifying. A moment of compassion leads Celestine to be accused of being Flawed. Former poster girl for the authoritarian government, she’s made an example to others, only to become a hero to the opposition. Raising interesting questions about society, and personal responsibility, and set against a convincing background of family, friends and first love, this will get young people reading and thinking. The Hunger Games books offer more thought-provoking dystopian adventures, as does Lois Lowry’s classic The Giver, or Jeannie Waudby’s recent One of Us. ~ Andrea Reece A Piece of Passion from Nick Lake, Publishing Director: “Cecelia has a unique gift for creating stories that hook the reader in, and Flawed grabs from the first page. Beautifully realised, tender and thought-provoking, this is a book that makes you care – about Celestine, about fairness, about freedom. The only flaw is having to wait for the second book…”
Absolutely delightful! Cecelia Ahern always writes with stirring compassion and a delicious secretive quirk, so I was really looking forward to starting this, her twelfth novel. ‘The Marble Collector’ lived up to my expectations as a really touching, quite, quite beautiful read. Not exactly a slow burner, as the writing is so eloquent, however the more you read, the more you understand, and the more you are enveloped by and become absorbed in the story. The chapters are either from daughter Sabrina’s perspective (over one day), headed ‘Pool Rules’ or from her father Fergus’s entire lifetime of ‘Playing with Marbles’. Focusing on secrets and how well we know and understand ourselves and our loved ones, this engaging novel thoroughly provokes thoughts and feelings. As I closed the last page, and had a little ponder, I found myself giving ‘The Marble Collector’ a warm and loving hug. Very different from her previous books for there is no supernatural or spiritual element. Just a thoroughly good story of family dynamics, relationships, handicaps in families and it affects all. It’s pensive, soul searching stuff concentrating on two people who have lost their way in life. A lovely read that will linger with you a long time. ~ Sarah Broadhurst
The original book was called Where Rainbows End. It covers some 45 years of emails, letters, text and instant messages between Rosie in Ireland and her childhood best friend, Alex in America. You laugh, you cry, you long for them to get it together but the fools don’t seem to realise how much they mean to each other. Through various twists and plausible scenarios we are hooked into their lives. A lovely read. The film version of Love Rosie is released in UK cinemas on Wednesday 22 October 2014. Christine, very conscientiously, runs an employment agency where she takes a great interest in her clients, attempting to assist them in every way she can. She is also slightly obsessed with self-help books. She inadvertently stumbles across two young men bent on suicide. She feels confused about the first which encourages her to change her life. The second produces a challenge for, as she saves the young man, he agrees to give her two weeks to persuade him to live. Bouncing from one crisis to another we discover a little of Christine’s background and her attitude to life as she embraces the mission. What a clever writer Cecilia is for despite the sadness of the suicide theme this lovely novel succeeded in being warm, at times funny and eventually heart-lifting. A great read. A beautiful special edition for Valentine’s Day – the classic million-copy bestselling love story from Cecelia Ahern. This was her first novel published back in 2008. It showed enormous promise and maturity and if you have not read it, you should. It is the tale of Holly grieving her husband’s recent death. He has left her a series of letters to help her move on. We follow her, supported by a great cast of family and friends, through each letter and each step in a sensitive, but not too schmaltzy, healing process. A tender tale well told.

Touching, warm, funny and poignant and a must for all of her fans. Cecelia Ahern's new novel has Lucy Silchester's Life as a central character (in fact he is a grumpy middle-aged man) who is out to sort out his charge and will not take no for an answer...

Tamara, suffering from the trauma of the suicide of her father and from being a teenager, finds an old blank diary in the mobile library. Very strangely she unknowingly begins to write in it, writing up the day to come. This might all sound a little far-fetched but if you are a Cecelia Ahern fan you will know how she so cleverly turns the unusual into the normal, how she brings magic into people’s lives and turns despair into happiness. It’s all very heart-warming.Comparison: Julie Cameron, Ben Sherwood, Melanie Rose (Down to Earth).
We have come to expect a magical aspect to Cecelia Ahern’s novels and The Book of Tomorrow is no different. Tamara Goodwin finds herself staying with her aunt and uncle after the death of her father but all is not quite as it seems and then she finds an empty diary waiting to be written in except when she decides to start writing in it she finds her future is already appearing on the pages. A lovely, heartwarming story you won’t fail to enjoy.
What would your greatest gift be? For the workaholic hero here, Lou, it is time, and magically he is given it. This is another tender, ethereal tale from a very talented author. You’ll love it. Comparison: Audrey Niffenegger, Alice Sebold, Ben Sherwood.
What would happen if when you recieved a blood transfusion you also recieved the memories and skills of the person as well? Celia explores this in this romantic, poignant and at the same time very funny novel. A well deserved member of the RNA shorlist. Shortlisted for the Romantic Novel of the Year 2009.
What astounded me when I read this author’s first book, PS I Love You, was her ability to capture, so sensitively, the essence of bereavement within a marriage when Cecelia was only 20 herself. This, her second, is very different. Firstly, it’s written in letters and emails between two friends and their families over 45 years, and secondly, it’s obvious from the start that the two were made for each other. But fate, geography, circumstances and the like get in their way. I’m not keen on letter and email novels but if you like your action in short sound-bites, then you can’t go wrong with this. Comparison: Cathy Kelly, Maeve Binchy, Teresa Waugh.Similar this month: Ben Sherwood, Clare Chambers.

I recommend this to anyone from teenage to 80. I think Cecelia is a real star, a young writer who conjures up big emotions in clever, unusual stories. This one is a bit strange and involves a place somewhere else where missing things turn up, even missing people. It might sound far-fetched but it is enchantingly done, a joy to read. Highly recommended as, indeed, are all her books.Similar this month: None but try Penelope Evans.Comparison: Ben Sherwood, Alice Sebold.
Cecelia Ahern’s debut novel propelled her in to the public eye and quite rightly so. This is a good romantic comedy with plenty of weepy bits, so get the tissues out and indulge in some harmless romantic fun. Easy to see why Hollywood picked it up and made it a summer blockbuster film. Explore our '80+ Books That Deliver a Hug' listicle for more feel-good or uplifting books.
Another great novel from the bestselling Cecilia. Very different from her previous books, this one has more in common with The Lovely Bones than her other relationship tales such as PS I Love You. The idea behind the novel is lovely, a place where all the odd socks end up, along with everything and everyone who gets lost. A real joy, as ever.
A family tale of sadness and sacrifice, of a child who ‘invents’ an invisible friend with interesting repercussions. I don’t want to tell you much more for fear of spoiling this unusual, sensitive and lovely book. She is such a clever author, you’ve got to read her, especially her first novel, PS I Love You.Similar this month: None but try Pauline McLynn.Comparison: Jodi Picoult, Alice Sebold, Ben Sherwood.
From the author of the bestselling novel, PS, I Love You, comes a novel about wishes and what happens when they come true. Warm and poignant, this is a novel full of magic, heart and a love story that will surprise you.
