Five Days Left by Julie Lawson Timmer

Lovereading view...

A lovely, lovely book, very sad, heartbreaking but so sensitively written. We follow Mara who prepares for suicide once her incurable illness, Huntingdon’s disease, becomes incapacitating and unbearable. She has a loving husband and a five-year old daughter. We also follow Scott and Laurie trying for a baby and having an eight-year old, disruptive boy, Curtis, dumped on them while his mum is in prison. The only connection between the two stories is anonymous communication via a website. There is tragedy in Curtis’ life too. This is a real ‘kleenex’ book which strangely leaves you uplifted. Highly recommended. ~ Sarah Broadhurst

Scott lives a thousand miles away, and is a foster parent to a troubled eight-year-old. Scott is facing his own five day countdown until his beloved foster son is returned to his biological mother. The two connect through an online forum, and find a friendship to help guide them through the most difficult, and momentous, week of their lives.
