From growing up in a Scottish village, to the racetrack of Monaco and the boardrooms of the world, Jackie Stewart’s life story is an inspirational tale of drive and determination.
An apparent failure in the classroom as a result of his undiagnosed dyslexia, Jackie found self-respect at the age of 14 as a clay pigeon shooter, going on to become an international-class shot and narrowly missing out on selection for the 1960 British Olympic team. As a 21-year-old, he turned to motor sport. Forbidden to race by his mother, he initially competed as AN Other and swiftly moved through the ranks to become one of the greatest Grand Prix drivers of all time. With his trademark sunglasses, corduroy cap and sideburns, he became instantly recognisable across the globe in an era of style, speed and glamour.
After retiring from the circuit, he worked for 15 years as a television sports presenter in America, and pursued long-term commercial relationships with a number of global brands. In 1988 he re-entered the world of motor racing, working alongside his son in the Paul Stewart Racing team. In 1997 he and his family launched Stewart Grand Prix, a venture many F1 experts thought doomed to failure. The doubters were soon proved wrong as podium success followed.
Beyond sport his compelling story is one of never shirking a challenge, achieving worldwide recognition as a role model and a highly respected businessman.
