"A unique and interesting introspective memoir written with an unfiltered honesty about the author’s life with a Borderline Personality Disorder."
Confessions of Schizoid Man is the first part of an introspective memoir reflecting on the author’s life with a Borderline Personality Disorder. Taking us from early life and upbringing through to a life in academia that sees him working through the Cold War and into a new, more capitalist world.
What struck me most about the writing is that the author very clearly presents a detachment between the inner and outer worlds. When the author is confused by other people’s actions and intentions, so is the reader. Although this doesn’t help you to connect with the world and context at large, it allows you to connect more with the narrative perspective, allowing full access inside the mind of the author at the stages being presented. This would be fascinating for anyone interested in exploring how other people see the world and mental health. Written with an unfiltered honesty, Confessions of Schizoid Man is a unique and interesting read.

Confessions of Schizoid Man is the first volume of a two-volume memoir that follows my attempt to fit into the outer world as a sensible person, while suffering with a Borderline Personality Disorder, expressed as sleeplessness, religious anxiety, and sexual confusion.
The tale begins in childhood and leads to a life in academia, first through the Cold War and then to the stress of Global Capitalism, where a nervous collapse starts the quest to find my lost inner person by diverse psychotherapeutic practices. Altogether a tragi-comedy in Psychology and Theology, offered here as an entertainment, particularly for those involved in the mysteries of personal identity and mental health.
