LoveReading Says

Simply delicious, the stories behind family, food, and love come together to create a really warm and friendly cookbook. I have so enjoyed falling in love with the story of Cannon Hall Farm through their collective books. Richard now joins others in the family with his first cookbook. He sums up his feelings for food in a way that really connected: “For me, food is not fuel, to be added to an engine. Food is generosity and warmth, fodder for the soul”. The story and recipes follow the seasons, as Richard says: “Nature’s harvest is a wonderful thing, we simply need to recognise and appreciate it when it comes along”. He has included not only much loved family and farm recipes, but also those from further afield. This has the feel of a gathering of proper family favourites, from simple dishes through to more complicated ones, meet the scones that saved the farm, roasted beetroot and red onions on whipped feta, and Cumberland ring toad in t’ole with red onion gravy. He adds handy notes alongside food memories, with colourful photos by Clive Chalice bringing the book to vibrant life. It’s the family friendly feel to this book that really makes it stand out, as well as the appreciation and love for tradition, it’s full of positivity and good vibes. Richard is honest about his journey, and how food has really helped him: “That’s what we believe in at Cannon Hall Farm, respect for those who came before us and hope and optimism for those who follow”. What gorgeous book this is, warming and inspiring, the Cannon Hall Farm Cookbook comes to you from a place of love, and it shows.
