Following the death of her mother, Lily returns to her childhood home of Lostmor, Cornwall to hear of a life-changing inheritance. Returning to the place she horrifically lost her father and younger sister stirs up painful memories of that fateful night, though she also discovers new friends and love in wake of her loss. Meanwhile, Marcus, veteran and pub manager has come to Lostmor driven by his own grief and a search for answers. The intertwining threads of this small Cornish community brings threats but also answers, new friends and community. 

The powerful prologue sets the scene for this twisting suspense novel as two sisters play, anticipating the birthday celebrations of the next day, and then a grandmother and granddaughter experience a horrendous collision with a motorcycle while driving on the coastal road. Thus the context of our two intrigues are established and we head to the present day to meet the characters left behind. Marcus’ search for the one responsible for his daughter’s death is heartbreaking, his internalised guilt driving him to revenge and pushing away those who get close. Lily’s story is more one of revelation: discovering her inheritance then the secrets about her family and the events of the night coming back to her in flashes when she revisits her old home, tension building and teasing you to read on for answers. The Secrets of Lostmor is a romantic suspense and I liked the balance that these sweeter and more hopeful moments bring, contrasting the dramatic and painful backstories of the characters.

This is an atmospheric suspense with a perfect setting of coastline that can be both beautiful and turbulent. A great read for anyone looking for a suspense read to take to the beach.
