Times of London is volume one in The Panharmonion Chronicles, a graphic novel saga following music composer Alex Campbell. She miraculously survived a fire that killed her parents and her brother, raised by grandparents but her multi-cultural identity and struggle to set down roots leaves her feeling isolated. As she moves to London for a new life and to claim an inheritance she’s harassed by a shadowy corporation that wants to buy her out, but her refusal sees her drawn into a darker and much older fight that threatens the world as we know it.
The graphic novel style effectively tells Henry Chebaane’s action-packed story. The illustrations by Stephen Baskerville, who is a veteran artist and worked on Spider Man and Doctor who to name just a couple of projects, is vivid and really helps to bring the story to life. Times of London is a fast moving story but also has a lot to unpack, from the power of massive corporations to addressing issues of race and the patriarchy and the themes of trying to uncover your identity. This is an entertaining start to The Panharmonion Chronicles and I’m sure fans of sci-fi, action and alternative history stories will enjoy this series. I’m interested in seeing how Alex’s story develops.

WILL HER STORY END HISTORY?
This debut original graphic novel by author, artist and designer Henry Chebaane, is about a multi-cultural female music composer who struggles with a conflicted identity, a traumatic past and repressed supernatural abilities while fighting a violent supremacist cult through Time.
When Alex Campbell moves from Toronto to London for a new life, she’s being harassed by a shadowy corporation with ancient roots and a malevolent agenda. Her resistance to their violence unleashes a catastrophic chain of events that threatens her own sanity and the survival of our world.
Driven by a strong female character, the multi-layered narrative is a gritty thriller set between 19th and 21st century across England, Scotland, Ontario, Quebec, Ohio and Nova Scotia.
The masterful sequential art from veteran artist Stephen Baskerville (Judge Dredd, Transformers, Spider-Man, Doctor Who), brings to life a heady blend of mystery thriller, science-fiction, horror and alternative history; spliced through with wry humour, pop culture and references for music lovers of all genres.
Times of London is Vol.1 in The Panharmonion Chronicles epic alternative history saga, where beside the potential for art and music to bring us together, the story also evokes serious issues about society, patriarchy, race, justice, identity and power structures.
