Three year retired Harry Bosch is working on cold cases for a small San Fernando Police Department who respect and treasure him, unlike his old colleagues from the LAPD days where he left under a cloud. At the same time he is questioned by his old department about a murderer and rapist’s case, a man who has been on death row for thirty years. Harry is accused of planting evidence and failing to do a DNA test, very serious allegations. Meanwhile his present case requires him to go “underground” to bring down a drugs gang. Because of the formal enquiries over the rapist photographs of Harry are released to the press and his cover blown. Now all hell breaks loose in a tense read. Bosch left the LAPD on bad terms, so his former colleagues are not keen on protecting his reputation. But if this conviction is overturned, every case Bosch ever worked will be called into question. As usual, he must fend for himself as he tries to clear his name and keep a clever killer in prison.
Along the way, Bosch discovers that there are two kinds of truth: the kind that sets you free and the kind that leaves you buried in darkness.

Michael Connelly is a former police reporter for the LOS ANGELES TIMES and the international bestselling author of the Harry Bosch thriller series.
