LoveReading Says
A beautifully readable novel full of the perils and successes of friendship, family, and owning of self. I adore author Beth Morrey’s writing, she is witty and bright, with the most fabulous grasp of what it is to be a modern woman. She writes with compassion and empathy while still not being afraid to prod a stick beneath the surface of life and give it a blimmin good shake. All three of her prior books from her emotional debut Saving Missy through to the gorgeous Lucky Day, have been LoveReading Star Books, and her fourth joins them in style. Gwen feels a little lost in life, her husband is successful, her sons are rushing towards adulthood, and her own career is fractured. After a reunion with some school friends, she determines to search for answers on the mystery of being ghosted by her best friend 15 years before. This is a novel that feels as light as a feather to read as it sparkles with a knowing humour, yet it is rich in depth as it ponders the meaning of friendship, and realisation of self-worth. I absolutely fell in love with Gwen, she is oh-so relatable, and I emotionally connected with her as she traverses her life. The other characters are as vibrantly colourful and I could picture each of them, even if in the story for only a moment and described in a few skilfully chosen words. The mystery side of the plot is handled with care and attention to detail, it certainly kept me on tenterhooks throughout. Ultimately this is a feel-good read, it is so lovely to be able to read a book that becomes a friend, and so this becomes a Liz Pick of the Month. Highly recommended, Isabella’s Not Dead is a wonderfully satisfying and rewarding novel.

About Beth Morrey
Beth Morrey is an ex-TV producer who was behind shows you watched and loved, like The Secret Life of 4 Year Olds; shows you might not have watched but would enjoy, like 100 Year Old Drivers; and shows that you haven’t watched and maybe shouldn’t, like Sun, Sex & Suspicious Parents.
Since her early twenties, Beth has been trying to write a book. Her first attempt was a spin-off from Mary Poppins called ‘Sister Suffragette’, which was all about Winifred Banks’ adventures when she wasn’t at home singing. It’s probably for the best that it’s still in a drawer somewhere. Beth was previously shortlisted for the Grazia-Orange First Chapter award, and had her work published in the Cambridge and Oxford May Anthologies while at university. Saving Missy is her first full-length novel, written in a café in Highbury during maternity leave. It was a Sunday Times bestseller, and has sold in 16 countries.
Beth has a husband who is a radio presenter, and two sons who are very tiring. In her spare time, she enjoys running, cooking, and stroking her dog, who would rather be elsewhere.
