"This captivating story of a challenging trial, magic, and romance dwells within a reimagined England one hundred years after the disappearance of faeries."
This historical romantic fantasy leans heavily into fantasy in the most delightful way. As a lover of all things fae, and collector of fairy and folklore non-fiction I was absolutely charmed by the premise of this novel. Featuring a reimagined England where the fae were once real, World War One batters Mouse’s reality and she accepts the challenge in her Uncle’s will to turn his crumbling once faerie beloved Estate around.
Author Moorea Corrigan has created the most believable of worlds, the sense of place within the estate of Thistlemarsh is vivid and vibrant. I settled right in, comfortable in knowing exactly when and where I was. Sitting alongside the main story are excerpts from a book by a human with consultation by a Faerie, highlighting the need for care when dealing with the fae world.
The two main characters Mouse and Thornwood sing together in a will-they won’t-they romantic dance where trust and friendship are hard won. I completely fell in love with Smudge and thoroughly enjoyed the surprises that lay in wait for me. Chosen as a Liz Pick of the Month, Thistlemarsh is a captivating dream of a novel full of the magic of the Faerie.
