A girl power heist caper with a cast of capable women. Jennifer daydreams of a carefree life traveling the world, ordering what she wants at restaurants and opening her own surf shop (who wouldn’t?). When she is roped into her roommate Nari’s “entrepreneurial” ventures that aren't totally above board, her dreams might actually be within reach. That the target is an exploitative company and the plan can be seen as pretty much altruistic is a bonus that is well focused on. Drawn into an attempt at an even bigger pay-out, Nari is putting together a team of other experienced "entrepreneurs" that could set them up for life, if they can get away with it. Add to that the hot acquaintance Jennifer meets at one of Nari’s parties and Jennifer has her heart and her freedom on the line. Cue intense heist strategy, disguises, training montages, and more than the odd setback that will leave readers wondering whether they’ll actually pull it off right the way through.

The Sweetest Getaway features a prominent cast of capable women, all with their own expertise, and Jennifer who is quick to learn and develop her own skill. It’s definitely a read for those that loved Ocean’s 8, or any heist storyline. The team tries to cover all bases, but the reader gets a wider perspective, seeing how close things get when the police catch wind. Although the personal benefit for the characters is sizable, their focus on helping out the factory workers being exploited and unpaid adds an admirable and redeemable slant to what they’re doing. I think, like all good heist plots, this has the right amount of jeopardy, there’s potential in team clashes as Nari yearns to prove herself, close calls and multiple identities that need to be kept straight, everything seems poised on a knife edge to either succeed or go terribly wrong at a moment’s notice. It’s a gripping, girl-powered caper that sees a community of women joyfully come together as they work to get their bag.
