This is the second in the series featuring hostage negotiator Alex Lewis, written by former officer and negotiator John Sutherland. After Alex talks Becca Palmer, the assistant for the Policing Minister, back from the edge of Westminster Bridge, she reveals knowledge of a potential conspiracy at the heart of the Home Office.

John Sutherland is going from strength to strength with what is fast becoming his trademark of considered and meaningful, yet thrilling stories. This tale is relevant and rousing, it comes out swinging and shaking a fist at dodgy dealings, the boys’ club mentality, and darker side of politics.

Alex and his partner feel as though they could be real, you see the human side of policing and the affects it has on those who care about the job. I found myself reacting as I read, flinching, agreeing, raising eyebrows, and hoping for a positive outcome as the plot buzzed with increasing tension. This novel isn’t just written by a man who understands and has lived the role of hostage negotiator, but also by someone who cares about people and knows how to tell an absolutely thrilling story.

Chosen as a LoveReading Star Book and Liz Pick of the Month, The Fallen is a rollicking good read that comes with highly recommended stamped all over it.
