A Maxim Jakubowski selected title.

An old-fashioned and high concept novel, the first in a new series, this is destined for the bestseller lists and the screen in sheer overdrive. Like a throwback to 1950s atomic menace horror movies, this is both lurid and captivating as Boone unleashes a plague of man-eating spiders on the world. Reminiscent of Michael Crichton at his best, particularly Jurassic Park, albeit with a different abominable menace, this is a wild ride with thrills and menace oozing between the lines and a globe-spanning plot with a gallery of characters both personal and political madly attempting to stem the death march of the invincible insects. Not one for arachnophobes, but will do for spiders what the aforementioned Crichton blockbuster did for dinosaurs. Either you'll want to rush out and buy it, or you'll deliberately avoid it like the plague, depending on how you feel about the little creatures in question!

Unusual seismic patterns register in a Indian earthquake lab, confounding the scientists there. The Chinese government accidentally drops a nuclear bomb in an isolated region of its own country. The first female president of the United States is summoned to an emergency briefing. And all of these events are connected. As panic begins to sweep the globe, a mysterious package from South America arrives at Melanie Guyer's Washington laboratory. The unusual egg inside begins to crack. Something is spreading...The world is on the brink of an apocalyptic disaster. An virulent ancient species, long dormant, is now very much awake. But this is only the beginning of our end...

The Hatching Press Reviews

'It is skilfully written and entirely gripping - I think it is likely to be a best seller, and I would recommend you give it a go...' Nudge Books

'a thoroughly entertaining, deliciously skin-crawling horror thriller that you'll like it with or without the spiders falling on your lap as you read it' For Winter's Nights

'The inclusion of events and voices from around the world add to the growing suspense and excitement and, if you aren't scared of spiders, the idea of a carnivorous swarm of eight-legged homicidal maniacs, is enough to keep you turning the pages.' The Book Beard Blog
