Winner of TV & Film Book of the Year at the Galaxy British Book Awards 2007.
This had been made into a Hollywood blockbuster, but the book is miles better! Set in the cut-throat fashion industry, the main character Andrea lands a job as assistant to a powerful fashion editor who turns out to be a bit of a nightmare to work for. Anyone who's ever had an unreasonable boss will see the funny side. The author, Lauren Weisberger, used to be the assistant to the editor of Vogue, so it wouldn't be all that surprising if a lot of the book was based on personal experience.

If you like Lauren Weisberger you might also like to read books by Kathy Lette, Adele Parks and Arabella Weir.

Here's what one of our members thinks of her bag
A big thank you for the two Lovereading bags I ordered, which have arrived safely. I love mine and will use it with pride. The bags are lovely quality, sturdy and support a good cause in the Rewrap initiative; I think they make the perfect accessory for any book lover. The second bag was a gift for my sister and she says she will take it to her next book group meeting to help spread the Lovereading word. Once again, many thanks. Emily Wright

Synopsis

The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger

Welcome to the dollhouse, baby!

When Andrea first sets foot in the plush Manhattan offices of Runway she knows nothing.

She's never heard of the world's most fashionable magazine, or its feared and fawned-over editor, Miranda Priestly. But she's going to be Miranda's assistant, a job millions of girls would die for.

A year later, she knows altogether too much:

That it's a sacking offence to wear anything lower than a three-inch heel to work. But that there's always a fresh pair of Manolos for you in the accessories cupboard.

That Miranda believes Hermes scarves are disposable, and you must keep a life-time supply on hand at all times.

That eight stone is fat.

That you can charge cars, manicures, anything at all to the Runway account, but you must never, ever, leave your desk, or let Miranda's coffee get cold.

And that at 3 a.m. on a Sunday, when your boyfriend's dumping you because you're always at work, and your best friend's just been arrested, if Miranda phones, you jump.

Most of all, Andrea knows that Miranda is a monster who makes Cruella de Vil look like a fluffy bunny. But also that this is her big break, and it's going to be worth it in the end.

Isn't it?
