Lovereading view...

The Sunday Times number one bestselling author delivers a shocking thriller that proves that a well-placed lie can help build a comfortable life - and a secret has the same explosive power to destroy it.

The Good Book Guide logo The Good Book Guide Review. Let’s be honest. Is it really necessary to recommend a new book by Harlan Coben? Is there a more sure-fire guarantee of reading pleasure than a new book by this master storyteller? Particularly since he abandoned his series of novels with an American sports theme, always a tough sell for British readers. In this new one, The Stranger, the eponymous character appears out of nowhere, again and again, in all kinds of locations: a parking lot, or a bar, or a grocery store. He comes bearing information, and whispers it into the ears of people whose lives are then changed irrevocably. Adam Price (not to be confused with the creator of the TV drama Borgen) is enjoying a comfortable and happy marriage with a wife and children to whom he is devoted – until an encounter with The Stranger tears apart his ordered existence. Harlan Coben on vintage form.

Synopsis

The Stranger by Harlan Coben

The Stranger appears out of nowhere, perhaps in a bar, or a parking lot, or at the grocery store. His identity is unknown. His motives are unclear. His information is undeniable. Then he whispers a few words in your ear and disappears, leaving you picking up the pieces of your shattered world. Adam Price has a lot to lose: a comfortable marriage to a beautiful woman, two wonderful sons, and all the trappings of the American Dream: a big house, a good job, a seemingly perfect life. Then he runs into the Stranger. When he learns a devastating secret about his wife, Corrine, he confronts her, and the mirage of perfection disappears as if it never existed at all. Soon Adam finds himself tangled in something far darker than even Corrine's deception, and realizes that if he doesn't make exactly the right moves, the conspiracy he's stumbled into will not only ruin lives - it will end them...
