Decimus and Luciana face new challenges that could change their relationship forever, as the conflict between the Romans and Britons continues. Following on from the first book in the Roman Equestrian series, Gradarius continues the ancient historical narrative with Centurion Decimus and enslaved lover Luciana.

Their relationship remains as steamy as it was in Venator, though this time they have to work together in the face of new challenges that could put more than their relationship in jeopardy. Once again this historical narrative is filled with depth, with further summary and explanation provided in the historical notes at the end to appeal to history fans.

Rome and Britannia are hurtling towards a clash and both Decimus and Luciana will have to decide on which side of the battle they stand. Loyalties are called into question, trust is frayed, will love endure? Gradarius is an action packed sequel and I would highly recommend new readers begin with Venator.

I enjoyed diving back into Decimus and Luciana’s world and seeing their connection face new challenges. I enjoyed the continuation of Nicomedes’ story as he was a favourite from the first book, but I also loved the development of Tullius, his own journey of self discovery and connection was an engaging addition.

Taking us right through to Boudicca’s revolt Gradarius is a well-crafted addition to the series and another gripping blend of historical fiction and romance that I would recommend.
