"An entertaining and cosy crime mystery set in 1904 where the plot flows through the political undercurrents of the Prime Minister secretly investigating an abduction."
Step inside this historical crime novel and you’ll meet a moral and just (fictitious) Prime Minister with a deeply ingrained decency. In Edwardian London, Felix Grey joins forces with an American professor and a young apprentice, to investigate an abduction with links to a diabolical plot. Author Mario Theodoro maintains a thoughtful balance throughout this story, social and political issues sit alongside diverting characters, and a lightness of touch makes this a charmingly easy read. The descriptive detailing settles the time and location beautifully into place. London and Number 10 come alive as Felix explores the different paths the clues lead to. It’s interesting to see how one of the most important figures in the land runs an investigation on the side. Trust is a scarce commodity, but the relationship between the main characters is engaging and I loved how Amelia and Alfred added to depth to the story. It certainly appears as though this could be the start of a new series, and I look forward to seeing how it develops. With intriguing layers and a captivating setting, Felix Grey and The Descendant is an entertaining political crime mystery.
