"Set within the beautiful Tuscan countryside and Florence, this emotionally provocative relationship story spins between two time frames."
The compelling and poignant tale of two women as they battle to overcome their circumstances. After Tori leaves her abusive husband and moves to Florence to complete research for a book, she finds herself intrigued by the story of a member of the Italian resistance. Two very separate women and their stories sit within this novel, linked by their situation and one woman. I was immediately captured by Stella’s story, the detail of her life fighting the fascists was fascinating. I found myself searching for the connection between Stella and Tori, as the novel progressed and the link became clear I settled further into the tale. Kat Devereaux writes about the difficulties faced in an abusive marriage with care and consideration. There were parts I expected to be in the spotlight but faded into the background, and other quieter elements that enjoyed sitting centre stage. So, I would suggest not overthinking and just letting yourself embrace the unexpected nature of the journey. The ending is rather abrupt, yet feels appropriate, as though there are still secrets still waiting to be found. Set in the loveliest of locations, Escape to Tuscany is an absorbing and thought-provoking relationship tale.
