A lovely psychological thriller where the unreliable narrator leaves you working hard following the facts and trying to figure out what really happened. One begins to wonder if this narrator, Leah, isn’t a bit disillusioned herself and if her housemate, Emmy, who has gone missing, actually exists.
We get their past history drip-fed to us adding to the present mystery. A girl looking a lot like Leah has been assaulted. Was this a case of mistaken identity? Leah is hiding something huge in her past, running away to teach in a rural school when once she was a journalist in Boston. Why? But then Emmy’s past seems a total mystery too, if she exists!
Great fun, full of twists and turns and many a red herring. I honestly don’t think you’ll guess the denouement until you get there.
Having reached a dead end in Boston, failed journalist Leah Stevens needs a change. When she runs into an old friend, Emmy Grey, who is moving to rural Pennsylvania, Leah decides to join her. But their fresh start is quickly threatened when a woman with an eerie resemblance to Leah is assaulted by the lake, and Emmy disappears days later.

Overall very enjoyable and I thought the ending was fitting and tied up all the loose ends of the story.

The author tries and to a great extent succeeds in giving us lots of clues. It all gets satisfactorily explained in the end
On first reading ‘The Perfect Stranger’ by Megan Miranda, I found it a little confusing as it jumps backwards and forwards in time. Once you understand this, it is fairly easy to follow.
Leah, the main character, has left her job as a reporter due to a problem, although we don't find out what this is for some time. She takes up a teaching post and meets up with an old friend and they decide to share a house. Then this friend disappears and no one can find any trace of her. Basically, the book is about Leah doing her own investigation as to what happened to her friend. Intriguing and complex mystery thriller that is fast paced and gripping. Overall, a great read.
This is a really interesting book, full of clues and revelations. Megan Miranda's story follows Leah Stevens, who has just resigned from her job at a newspaper and is looking to leave town quickly.
