An absolutely stunning tale, one that walks a tightrope of tension, is at times uncomfortable, yet impossible to put down. A novel appears in the life of someone who never expected to read her own tale between the pages. Two stories are told, one is removed, never completely in touch, sometimes even awkward, while the other is so personal and impassioned, the thoughts and feelings drive up and out from the page. This concept highlights the differences between the two tales, yet the connection between them burns with intensity. Renee Knight writes with empathy, yet penetrating sharpness, the clever writing keeps hitting you with the unexpected, tripping up your understanding and stamping over any speculation. My compassion danced one way and then the other, and it took until the very end for it to settle. ’Disclaimer’ is a debut with attitude and I highly recommend it.
