"A vibrant, big-hearted campus novel about confidence, connection, and the courage to be seen."
Meet Mary-Elizabeth Baxter - a woman who can truly do it all. She can craft the perfect greeting, apply red lipstick on a moving bus without a mirror, and has a flair for style so sharp it could cut glass. With candyfloss hair, an irresistible chatty energy, and a head full of opinions, she is the agony aunt behind Queen Anne’s College’s student magazine column Ask M-E Anything. She is the antidote to apathy - if there’s fun to be had or a cause to champion, she’s in the middle of it.
Between her crush on the rakish magazine editor (who she’s determined to finally seduce this year), her agony aunt column and her new club night, Mary-Elizabeth’s world hums with possibility.
But under all the glitter and good vibes, there’s a quieter truth. Uni life is expensive, stressful, and precarious - that constant tightrope walk between living your best life and making sure it’s not all for nothing. And while M-E projects confidence and charisma, underneath she’s a sensitive soul navigating complicated friendships, a self-absorbed ex-model mother, and the fear that maybe, just maybe, she’s losing her joy in this challenging second year of Uni.
Bethany Rutter captures all of this with her trademark sparkle and insight. Ask Me Anything is full of heart, humour, and humanity - a story about understanding, connection, and being loved for who you are. It’s for anyone who’s ever tried to protect themselves from hurt but found, in the process, the courage to really live.
Bursting with warmth and energy, Mary-Elizabeth is the queen of vibes - and by the end, you’ll wish she was your best mate.

A gorgeously sassy campus-set romcom, where problem pages and parties turn enemies to lovers
As Mary-Elizabeth starts her second year at university in London, she has set her sights on Felix Balfour, the charming, very sexy and outwardly feminist editor of the university magazine. This is where she writes 'Ask M-E Anything' - a column full of perky, optimistic advice for the lovelorn. As for her own love-life, she only wants a little no-strings fling with Felix, and of course she'll be able to pull that off. Fun times ahead!
Meanwhile, annoying grump Laurie from the uni newspaper (the university's more highbrow and serious publication) just seems to be a thorn in her side. After mocking her at a Quad Media mixer party, he seems to be continuing to mock her from the newspaper's own problem page - an idea they've stolen from the magazine and made much less fun. Mary-Elizabeth is sure the newspaper's brutal responses to the same problems she's tackling could only be penned by Laurie.
Mary-Elizabeth is certainly prejudiced against proud-seeming Laurie. But when Mary-Elizabeth loses her way, and the fun times with Felix start to sour, Laurie is always there to pick her up, and not asking for anything in return ... But surely Laurie isn't the answer to her problems?
