"A roaring battle-filled novel set in 1368, brilliantly highlighting comradeship, strategy, and fighting skills as it sweeps into Italy alongside Sir Thomas Blackstone and his men."
Sitting as the ninth book within the Master of War series, the fabulous Rage of Swords features a vivid and compelling setting as it follows Thomas Blackstone into southern Europe on a mission to secure gold for war against the French. This is one heck of a series, it is bitingly bloody, full of fascinating characters, and overflowing with strategy, adventure, and battles. I love how author David Gilman has allowed Blackstone to age, and has brought in his son Henry to learn the art of war. The relationship between the two adds an additional element to the storyline, each affecting the other as Thomas attempts to teach and Henry often refuses to learn. The sense of place plays a huge part, the descriptions allow a real visual sense of the lay of the land. The history thunders through the pages, the battle action is fierce and bloodthirsty, there are times when I winced and flinched as I read, and yet I couldn’t turn away and so this sits as a LoveReading Star Book. Rage of Swords is a thrilling and gripping historical novel, it sings of comradeship and fighting skills as it roars its way through skirmishes and battles.

But there is a price on Blackstone's head, and assassins willing to risk everything to claim it before he even gets to Milan. He must outwit a succession of ever deadlier enemies, and the Master of War has other foes to conquer: the ambitions of his son Henry, who has inherited his father's knack of getting into scrapes. Scrapes that could end in a hangman's noose...
