"Folklore, magic, and an intense battle for survival roars into vibrant energetic life in this rewarding novel set in Ireland during the time of the Norman invasion."
Oh, how I love the Gael Song series, the most wonderful blend of history, folklore, and fantasy takes you into the heart of Ireland with dramatic intensity. Author Shauna Lawless has, with care and attention, created the most fascinating of worlds, one where the magic of the Tuatha Dé Danann and Fomorians weaves into the history of the land. The covers to these novels are vibrantly powerful, and Daughter of the Otherworld is just glorious. This novel moves 100 years beyond the trilogy which began with the The Children of Gods and Fighting Men, and settles into a new story in the times of the Norman invasion.
Violence, ambition, survival, duty, and love, swirl through the pages with a number of plot lines creating, connecting, and building in intricate layers. There is a beautiful balance to be found with the writing here, it feels at once epic, heroic, and magical while also authentic, natural, and realistic. The descriptions of the times and land bring a sense of place that settles over the pages and allows you to believe. The characters became a part of me, their actions and emotions affecting my thoughts as the story progressed.
Joining its sisters as a LoveReading Star Book, this is a tale that you can abandon yourself to, this is a series that deserves to run. Highly recommended, Daughter of the Otherworld sings with vivid energy as battles for survival and kingship commence.
