Young adult writer Catherine Webb was also known to pen great fantasy adventures as Kate Griffin, but the revelation she was also Claire North, author of last year's unique The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August, was a major surprise. Her follow-up, Touch, is as intriguing and breathless as it is brilliantly original, constantly defying expectations and a step (or two) ahead of the reader. Featuring a troubled hero who can move from body to body just by grazing someone's fingertip and who becomes the subject of a sinister assassination attempt, the tentacular plot spans centuries and the whole wide world in an attempt for the protagonist to find out why he (or she) is being hunted and opens the lid on a boiling pot of conspiracy theories. Agile, unpredictable, this one will keep you awake at night in the search for answers. ~ Maxim Jakubowski

The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August was a stunning debut and this is even better. It is amazing. A thriller with a dimension that others simply do not have. The entity known as Kepler can pass from one body to another through the simple touching of skin. From victim to murderer to cop to receptionist to driver to … anyone. A chase becomes something so much more than running and hiding when you can hide as anyone. It also adds a new level of excitement. Hard to describe why it is so good, you just have to read it. I’m serious, it is one of the weirdest and most wonderful thrillers I have ever read and I’m sure you will think so too.

The electrifying new thriller from the acclaimed author of The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August. He tried to take my life. Instead I took his. It was a long time ago. I remember it was dark, and I didn't see my killer until it was too late. As I died, my hand touched his. That's when the first switch took place. Suddenly, I was looking through the eyes of my killer, and I was watching myself die. Now switching is easy. I can jump from body to body, have any life, be anyone. Some people touch lives. Others take them. I do both. 'One of the cleverest, most compelling books I've read in a long time. Intoxicating, ingenious and intricate ...Claire North is one hell of a writer' C. L. Taylor, author of The Accident 'The high stakes and breakneck pace of the plot will draw readers in, and the meditations on what it means to be human and to be loved will linger long after the last shot is fired' Kirkus 'I was totally and utterly gripped, it's just extraordinary. Absolutely mesmerising' Claire Mackintosh, columnist and author of I Let You Go Other praise for Claire North: 'One of the fiction highlights of the decade ...Utterly readable, utterly believable and compelling' - Judy Finnigan, Richard and Judy Book Club 'Fantastic' Simon Mayo, BBC Radio 2 'Beautiful and gripping' GUARDIAN 'A masterful literary thriller' I09.
