"A thought-provoking dystopian horror novel with real heart, which is set in the UK two years after humans are nearly wiped out by those who consume them."
Well now, this is rather different! A mix of pagan folklore, dystopian horror, and a tale of relationships and family drama hits the pages with real attitude. Sara’s family, constantly on the move and hiding from the creatures who have been decimating humanity, help a young woman, and then race to find and save Sara’s brother after he is taken.
Please note that you won’t find witches in the traditional sense within this novel, however it is steeped in pagan rituals and folklore. Author India-Rose Bower has created a tale of family and love amongst complete devastation. The family dynamic feels authentic, even as you are thrown into the horror which is crafted with care.
Gaps, holes, and spaces are deliberately left waiting to snare you, ensuring the unknown unsettles and provokes. There is a subtlety at play here, even as the words slice through thoughts, and a relationship builds in front of you. I absolutely adored the ending which hits with a piercing clarity. Hovering over a cliff edge of suspense and tension, We Call Them Witches is an edgy, fiercely provocative read.
