About the Author

Merline Lovelace

During her 23-year career in the United States Air Force, Colonel Merline Lovelace served in Taiwan, in Vietnam, at the Pentagon with the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and on the staff of a presidential appointee. During this time, she never realised what good fodder her exciting, adventure-filled career would make for writing books. But when she hung up her uniform in September 1991, she combined her love of romance with a flair for storytelling, and has based many of her tales on her experiences in the service.

Ever since then, her keyboard’s been clattering, as she has produced one action-packed sizzler after another. She now has 30 published novels, many of which have made USA Today and Waldenbooks bestseller lists. More than four million copies of her works are in print in more than two dozen countries, including Austria, Australia, Brazil, Denmark, Germany, France, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Norway, Spain, Sweden and Taiwan.

In addition to her string of highly successful romances, she also writes mainstream thrillers. These action-adventure novels, all with military settings, blend fact and fiction, intrigue and romance in a highly combustible combination.

Merline has won numerous honours and awards. She’s a five-time nominee for the Romance Writers of America’s prestigious RITA Award, and recipient of Romantic Times 1993 Reviewers’ Choice Award. She’s also very proud of the fact that the University of Oklahoma named her the 1998 Oklahoma Writer of the Year, adding her name to a roster of literary luminaries that includes Louis L’Amour and Tony Hillerman.

Contrary to the misconception that there is a ‘formula’ for writing fiction, Merline has found that each book is individual and distinct. In fact, she’s discovered that the profession of writing is much like her air force career—challenging, incredibly hard work, and great fun.
