"An artist with a creative block and a mysterious notebook with a concerning story inside. This is an interesting story about art, life and connection."
Lucy Potter is a successful artist but hasn’t created any new work in months. An art school reunion brings an old flame back into her life and the discovery of a notebook written in code sparks the mystery of its former owner. Will these diversions pull her away from her painting or provide the opportunity for Lucy’s creativity to return.
The Colour of Memory is an interesting tale, simultaneously taking us on Lucy’s journey as an artist looking for new inspiration as well as the search for the owner of the cryptic notebook. Her relationship with Rex rounds out the narrative but, much like their relationship, it is stable and steady and for me comfortably occupies the background of the story.
Lucy’s view on the world is intriguing and how she paints and is inspired to create is brought to life by the writing. The window project fits perfectly within the context of the story, evoking the idiom and metaphors connecting them to the soul while Lucy searches for the meaning of the notebook and the person depicted within.
Overall I think that this is a gentle character driven tale exploring our connections to art, life, the past and each other.
Lucy Potter is a successful artist but she has done no new work in months. She fears she has lost the creative spark that sustained her and enabled her to express her view of the world. Will she ever regain it?
