There must be something in the water as female serial killers seem to be featuring more and more in the crime novels surfacing at the moment. As with Heartsick by Chelsea Cain we have a female protagonist on a killing spree. This is disturbing and chilling in itself but the fact that this is a particularly ruthless killer who is intent on revenge and we don’t find out why until much later in the book makes for a disquieting read. Karen Rose is definitely making her mark in the crime/thriller genre.
Sue Conroy, recently released prison inmate, is out of control. Determined to find the people responsible for her incarceration, she kidnaps an eleven-year-old deaf boy and heads straight to a Chicago inner-city women's shelter, run by Dana Dupinsky.
Dana safeguards many secrets in the lives of those around her but she would never harbour a murderer, that is, if she knew that one was living at the shelter. Dana only realises the danger when those around suddenly start dying and she is thrust into the middle of Sue's dangerous and evil game…
