LoveReading Says
With a compulsive dual-time narrative, Ashley Winstead’s In My Dreams I Hold a Knife is an addictive page-turner for fans of campus-based thrillers and dark secrets that come back to bite protagonists’ present-day lives.
Ten years after graduating from an elite university, 32-year-old Jessica is set on cooking up a sensational storm at her college reunion. These days, she’s “polished in every way a New York consultant’s salary could manage: blonde, white teethed, smoother-skinned, leaner and more muscled”, and she wants everyone to see nothing but perfection at the get together.
At the same time, Jessica and her former fellow students are haunted by a murder that happened during their freshman year. In Jessica’s words, “no one could have predicted that one of us would never make it out of college. Another, accused of murdering her. The rest of us, spun adrift.”
When Jessica’s re-meets her five friends at the reunion, they’re all forced to face what really happened on the night of the murder. Suspenseful and shot-through with suspicion, tension and toxicity as truths threaten to come to light, In My Dreams I Hold a Knife is quite a rollercoaster of a read, with intricately woven revelations skilfully revealed, and shocking secrets unleashed with breath-taking impact.
