A one stop shop, this fabulous guide covers a proper family holiday at some of the most loved holiday destinations in the UK. Insight Guides give a free ebook, which allow extra access and information to time with your holiday. A pull out page details a map of the tours mentioned in the guide. I love touring around the UK, and this guide really helps you pick the best things to do on route. An overview of the location is followed by the driving tours, bright pictures, maps, and highlight sections allow you to easily picture the tour. Each tour includes places to stop on route, activities, places to eat, and you can easily pick tours to suit your family. Individual features through the book, give further insight into the area. I would say that this guide is perfect for people who like to keep busy on holiday, to explore, get to know an area, and experience all there is on offer. Fiona, Devon
Small and light but packed full with useful information these guides make great travel companions. The Insight Great Breaks Guides are made up of a selection of tours interspersed with useful information and tips that really help you get the best out of your visit. Stunning photography and helpful maps make this a visual treat and really brought the area to life. Even places I knew well held new snippets of information. The guides also come with a free eBook so you’ll always have a version to hand. Matthew, West Sussex
The Insight Guides Great Breaks series are written by local experts and cover everything you would want to know about your destination. The great thing about them is the opportunity to download the free ebook to take with you on your break. These help you find the best restaurants and hotels while you are there, and makes sure you have the most up to date information available. The guide starts with a fold out map of the city which is big enough to show the main roads, but not too big to walk around with. Next up there are key features of the city highlighted to give you some ideas of the types of things to do, with further details stored in the rest of the book. Coloured boxes are included through the guide to give quick snippets of information about various topics. My favourite part of these guides are the tours to help you make the most out of each day. They have walking tours with a clear distance and time to complete, plus some longer routes for in the car. Telephone numbers, opening times and restaurants along the way are a great addition to ensure everything runs smoothly. Each stop on the tour has a brief overview of the history and features to help you learn more about the sites you are visiting. The guide finishes with a travel tips section giving key information for getting around, things to do, and places to stay. Again, this has phone numbers, opening times and website details to ensure you can get the most up to date information ready for your stay. Overall, these guides give you everything you need for a 1-2 week stay. There are some great UK stays in the Insight Guides: Great Breaks series, including Bath, Belfast, Edinburgh, The Lake District, Oxford, York, and many more. Emma, Northampton
Planning, a holiday a short break, or maybe just a day out, to Bath? but have no idea where to start, this slim book, is ideal. Giving the traveller a guided tour of the best places to visit, complete with beautiful pictures, and a history to go with it, along with maps and places to eat and park, you cannot go wrong. It has a guide to its coloured boxes, e,g Shopping is pink, View is blue, The only thing is it doesn't tell you the entrance prices of places, but this could be because of changes in them, or whether or not places are wheelchair friendly. Being in a wheelchair myself, this is what I looked for, but it does state at the back "Though a Georgian city centre doesn't lend itself to access for the disabled, it does operate a blue badge parking space. So if you are thinking of going to Bath, or are just an "Armchair traveller. Insight Guides are ideal, Angie, Lancashire
The Insight Guides Great Breaks series are pocket guides which are arranged in tours, allowing people to do their own DIY tours rather than having to join a group with a tour guide. The tours are numbered and shown on the fold out country map inside the front cover. Each tour also has its own map on which the numbered attractions described in the tour are marked. Some are walking tours and some are driving and all are for either a full day or half a day. There are colour photos and descriptions of each numbered attraction. At the end of each tour there is a list of recommended places to eat in the places covered by the tour with a price guide. Personally, I would have liked to see more walking tours. The guides also contain a top 10 list, overview, information on traditional food and drink, special features and travel tips, including recommended accommodation. The books themselves are good quality, glossy and full colour on every page. The different sections are colour coded on the page edges. One of the first things I look for in a guide book are maps and I was not disappointed here. The maps were all full colour and really practical. Websites providing further information are listed throughout. In addition, each book comes with a free ebook which is downloadable from the Walking Eye app. Walkers and tour lovers will find this series really useful. Rachel, London
Not too sure about the Insight Guides ‘Great Breaks’ Guides. They are neither one thing nor the other. It is not much bigger than the Berlitz Pocket guide. It is full of colourful photographs and similar in this respect to the Insight Guides series. However, they have a lot less information and interesting snippets in them. It seems that you are meant to use these to plan your holiday away. There are tips for accommodation, travelling there etc but it all seems a little half-hearted. Rachael, Glasgow
The Insight Guides 'Great Breaks' series are a handy sized travel guide and ideal as a point of easy reference when taking a short break. It is split into two main sections. The first covering tours and the second, travel tips. The tours section is an excellent idea as it showcases the destination by way of a series of walks that cover all the main local attractions. Each tour comes packed with lots of interesting information so you can conduct your own self-guided tour, making it a flexible and inexpensive way to discover all the local delights. Within each tour there are also recommendations for where to eat out along with pricing and contact information which makes planning the trip even easier. The travel tips section contains all the essential information from accommodation and transport to activities and sports. The guide is accompanied by the standard Insight Guides ebook and app which are incredibly useful as many travellers will have access to digital devices and this is a quick and easy way to access all the information and also if you want to share the information amongst more than one traveller.
Overall I find this an excellent compact guide. It’s got enough information contained within it not to feel overwhelmed or put off reading it, but lots of really useful hints, tips and more. Julie, Co. Donegal
