Lola

LoveReading Says

A Maxim Jakubowski selected title.

A superlative debut by a US author, set in the underbelly of gangland Los Angeles, with all the hallmarks of a future classic. Garcia initially appears to be the leader of an upcoming gang in South Central, The Crenshaw Six, but behind the scenes stands the charismatic and ruthless Lola, who is anything but a downtrodden Latina girlfriend and cleverly pulls all the strings.

A hardened survivor of drugs and prostitution, Lola is calculating, clever, cold-hearted and unstoppable and her inexorable rise to power in a truly macho environment makes for a grand read, violent, bloody, cynical but all too true to life in a winner takes all world. Raw, fast-paced and compelling, a stunning portrait of a woman in charge and deadlier than the male.

So much more than a tale of drugs and Cartels and patch wars, Scrivner Love's novel, like last year's award-winning Dodgers by Bill Beverly takes the cliches of crime and turns them them into storytelling gold. ~ Maxim Jakubowski
