Demelza by Winston Graham

Part of the Poldark Series
Sagas and Romance   eBook Favourites

Sarah Broadhurst's view...

Winston Graham started writing his famous Poldark series in the 40s and 50s, eventually spinning them into twelve novels (the last published in 2002) a gripping saga of Ross Poldark and his family spanning 1783-1820. The first seven books were the basis of a classic BBC series and now they’re remaking the full saga. This is book two and focuses on Ross Poldark’s wife Demelza, who he rescued from a rabble when she was 13 and grew into a lovely young woman who Ross grew to love. Don’t even think about reading this if you haven’t read Ross Poldark, the first in the series.

If you like Winston Graham you might also like to read books by Ken Follett, Daphne du Maurier and E V Thompson.

Demelza by Winston Graham

Demelza Carne, the impoverished miner's daughter Ross Poldark rescued from a fairground rabble, is now his wife. But the events of these turbulent years test their marriage and their love. Demelza's efforts to adapt to the ways of the gentry - and her husband - bring her confusion and heartache, despite her joy in the birth of their first child. Ross begins a bitter struggle for the rights of the mining communities - and sows the seed of an enduring enmity with powerful George Warleggan.
