Behind Closed Doors by Susan Lewis

Sarah Broadhurst's view...

The English Jodi Picoult who has always written a good plot has suddenly taken a leap forward with her writing too. She tackles nutty issues, winds a crime round them and keeps you furiously turning the pages. Here the disappearance of a girl brings back memories for our DC in charge of the case and very nearly causes her to make a fatal mistake. We get a lot of her life; she has two teenage children and an estranged husband whose reappearance changes much. This is more a human drama than a crime novel; a good one.

If you like Susan Lewis you might also like to read books by Sandra Brown, Tami Hoag and Sidney Sheldon.

Synopsis

Behind Closed Doors by Susan Lewis

This is a powerful novel about secrets and mistakes and how life can change course in less than a heartbeat. From the Top Ten bestselling author of Never Say Goodbye. When fourteen-year-old Sophie Monroe suddenly vanishes one night it looks at first as though she's run away from home. Her computer and mobile phone have gone, and she's taken a bag full of clothes. As the police investigation unfolds a wealth of secrets from the surrounding community start coming to light. And it seems everyone has something to hide. For Detective Sergeant Andrea Lawrence, the case is a painful reminder of the tragedy that tore her family apart over twenty years ago. She is convinced there is more to Sophie's disappearance than teenage rebellion. But is the past clouding her judgment, preventing her from seeing a truth that neither she, nor Sophie's family, would ever want to face?
