Lovereading view...

A fabulously absorbing sequel to ‘Dreamwalker’ and a gloriously tantalising world to visit. The timescale of the dragon’s fall from grace and the rise of the comparatively short-lived humans is quite mesmerising and effectively highlights their differences. The author cleverly humanises Benfro’s actions and feelings, it’s easy to empathise yet also easy to forget he has scales but when the dragon element is focused on, it increases the dramatic intensity. The adventures undertaken by Benfro and Errol increase in both danger and fear factor and as the chapters skip between the two characters, you are at times left hanging, desperate to know what happens next. The enthralling ending is satisfying yet leaves you impatiently waiting for the next book in the ‘Ballad of Sir Benfro’. ~ Liz Robinson

Synopsis

The Rose Cord by J.D. Oswald

There's a new fantasy phenomenon for 2014 - The Rose Cord is the second enchanting tale in J.D. Oswald's epic fantasy series, The Ballad of Sir Benfro. Fleeing the vengeful Inquisitor Melyn, Sir Benfro is drawn to the last resting place of a great dragon of legend, Magog, deep in the ancient forest. Through Magog's spirit, Benfro discovers the true nature of his forebears - a history of unimaginable power and mystery over mankind. But with this knowledge comes terrible danger. Errol Ramsbottom's dreams of becoming a great Warrior Priest have been shattered by his discovery of the dark secret of the Holy Order's power. And yet as a chosen noviciate he is trapped, unwillingly drawn deeper into the sinister plans for war which will engulf Gwlad. With the forces of magic gathering so the destinies of Errol and Sir Benfro further entwine...And so continues The Ballad of Sir Benfro, in which the great dragons of old return to the kingdom of men. The Ballad of Sir Benfro is an utterly compelling and beautifully written new fantasy series from J.D. Oswald. Fans of the Inheritance Series and readers hooked to the world of George R. R. Martin's Game of Thrones series will love the magic of the Twin Kingdoms.
